Carnival Celebration Coming in 2022

On Friday Carnival Cruise Line, with the help of some of their celebrity partners, revealed the name of the line’s next new ship. The second ship in the Excel-Class, sister to the Mardi Gras will be named, Carnival Celebration.

Throughout the week Carnival Brand Ambassador, John Heald and his friend The Cat in the Hat, have been sharing clues to the name of the new ship. Most guesses I had seen online were for Carnivale. The cruise line harkened back to it’s beginnings by naming the first Excel-Class ship Mardi Gras, after the company’s first ship so many assumed they would continue the tradition. Instead, they are repurposing a name, but of a newer ship, with a more deeper meaning.

“The name Carnival Celebration couldn’t be more perfect for a ship that will be a key component of our 50^th Birthday festivities,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “Many thanks to our celebrity partners who helped us officially ‘unbox the fun’ and reveal the name of a ship that promises to be a spectacular addition to our fleet. Carnival Celebration is our 50^th Birthday present to our guests!”

Carnival Celebration will debut from PortMiami in November 2022, and will be a sister ship to Mardi Gras, the first in the Excel series scheduled to enter service on Feb. 6, 2021 from Port Canaveral, Fla. The addition of Carnival Celebration to Miami will maintain PortMiami’s position as the top embarkation port for Carnival Cruise Line.

Carnival Celebration will include many of the features that have made Mardi Grasone of the most anticipated ships in cruising, including BOLT, the first roller coaster at sea, along with some unique design features created specifically for this vessel.

Carnival’s 50^th Birthday celebration kicks off in March 2022 – the company’s birthday month – with a series of commemorative sailings that will feature special entertainment and itineraries then continue all year long, culminating with the arrival of Carnival Celebration to Miami in November 2022. Carnival Celebration’s itineraries will be announced over the coming weeks and the ship will be opening up for sale in October.

Mardi Gras will kick off its seven-day program from the Space Coast November 14, 2020, offering two different three-port, seven-day itineraries, alternating weekly to the eastern and western Caribbean featuring some of the region’s most beautiful and popular ports. This is almost a month later than originally planned.

On December 20, 2020 Carnival announced that the ship will be delayed and it canceled several European and repositioning cruises as well as 4 sailings that were planned from port Canaveral.

“We have been working closely with Meyer Turku executives to keep the Mardi Gras delivery on schedule, and while we deeply regret disappointing our guests, this change in the delivery date is required to make sure all of the ship’s systems, features and technology will be fully operational, so that we can give our guests the vacation they expect,” said Ben Clement, Carnival Cruise Line’s senior vice president of newbuild. “Our commitment is to deliver a great and innovative ship, and Mardi Gras will definitely be that when it arrives in North America.”

Staying Connected at Sea with Carnival Wifi Everywhere

One of the things I was looking forward to testing out on our recent Carnival Cruise was their new, updated wifi program. On past cruises, I have lugged my laptop and paid a lot of money to occasionally check my email, update my blog or post on Facebook. This trip would be different! The new plans were rolled out on the Valor one week before our cruise We made good use of the plan we chose and are so happy for this improvement. Other plans like the ones offered by Circles Life Australia is also commended when it comes to internet.

I had no plans to check email or update my blog on this vacation but I did want to keep in touch with the outside world via social media and to be able to keep in touch with my friends and family on the ship. The new Carnival wifi plans were perfect for our needs.

Carnival Cruise Line Wifi Everywhere

Carnival now offers these 3 plans on all ships except for the Legend and the Spirit and there are even more exciting things coming on the new Vista!

Social Plan

Access to popular social sites and Apps such as Facebook, What’s App and Instagram. Does not include access to the entire internet. $5 a day or $25 for a 7 day cruise.

Value Plan

Access to the web. Perfect for emailing, browsing the news and keeping up to date with sports scores. Does not support access to bandwidth intensive services like Skype and music streaming. $16 a day.

Premium Plan

Access to the web at up to three times faster than the other plans. Supports Skype where coverage allows. $25 a day..

Users may easily upgrade from one plan to another. Users may use one device at a time on each plan, including either their personal devices or one of our on-board computers. Printing is offered at no charge.

Conditions and Exclusions

Satellite internet speed may vary depending on location and time of day
Video streaming sites such as Hulu and Netflix are blocked
Access to certain sites such as mature or violent content is blocked
VPN connections are not supported – discuss your VPN limitations with your company’s IT department if you are planning to work while sailing.

Carnival Cruise Line Announces Safety and Reliability Upgrades

We love to cruise and we have been on 5 Carnival Cruises in the last 8.5 years. Our first cruise was on the Facination during Hurricane Frances in 2004 and though our 4 night cruise became a 7 night cruise, Carnival did an exemplary job of keeping us safe, informed and entertained throughout the storm. We have cruised as a couple 3 times on the Facination, the Inspiration and the Legend, and as a family twice on the Imagination and the Valor.

It is no secret that Carnival has had a tough year with major problems with the Triumph and the Dream as well as power issues on the Legend. I have faith in Carnival and I hope to cruise with them again soon. Many companies get to a place where they have too many problems and they need to re-evaluate how they do business. Carnival is at that point and yesterday they announced a $300 million program to significantly enhance emergency power capabilities, introduce new fire safety technology, and improve the level of operating redundancies across its entire 24-ship fleet.

“All of Carnival Cruise Lines’ ships operate safely today. Each vessel already has effective systems in place to prevent, detect and respond to emergency situations, and we meet or exceed all regulatory requirements,” said Gerry Cahill, president and CEO of Carnival Cruise Lines. “However, by applying lessons learned through our fleet-wide operational review after the Carnival Triumph fire and by taking advantage of new technologies, we have identified areas for enhancement across our operations. These initiatives reflect our commitment to safe and reliable operations and an enjoyable cruising experience for the nearly 4.5 million guests who sail with Carnival Cruise Lines each year.”

The initial increase in emergency generator power across Carnival Cruise Lines’ fleet of 24 ships will be completed over the next several months. An additional emergency generator will be installed on each vessel to provide for 100 percent of stateroom and public toilets, fresh water and elevators in the unlikely event of a loss of main power. The work is already underway and will not affect scheduled itineraries. Upon completion of the initial phase, the line will install a second permanent back-up power system on each ship to provide an even greater level of hotel and guest services if main power is lost. These additional services will include expanded cooking facilities and cold food storage, as well as internet and telephone communications.
