On Friday Carnival Cruise Line, with the help of some of their celebrity partners, revealed the name of the line’s next new ship. The second ship in the Excel-Class, sister to the Mardi Gras will be named, Carnival Celebration.

Throughout the week Carnival Brand Ambassador, John Heald and his friend The Cat in the Hat, have been sharing clues to the name of the new ship. Most guesses I had seen online were for Carnivale. The cruise line harkened back to it’s beginnings by naming the first Excel-Class ship Mardi Gras, after the company’s first ship so many assumed they would continue the tradition. Instead, they are repurposing a name, but of a newer ship, with a more deeper meaning.

“The name Carnival Celebration couldn’t be more perfect for a ship that will be a key component of our 50th Birthday festivities,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “Many thanks to our celebrity partners who helped us officially ‘unbox the fun’ and reveal the name of a ship that promises to be a spectacular addition to our fleet. Carnival Celebration is our 50th Birthday present to our guests!”

Carnival Celebration will debut from PortMiami in November 2022, and will be a sister ship to Mardi Gras, the first in the Excel series scheduled to enter service on Feb. 6, 2021 from Port Canaveral, Fla. The addition of Carnival Celebration to Miami will maintain PortMiami’s position as the top embarkation port for Carnival Cruise Line.

Carnival Celebration will include many of the features that have made Mardi Grasone of the most anticipated ships in cruising, including BOLT, the first roller coaster at sea, along with some unique design features created specifically for this vessel.

Carnival’s 50th Birthday celebration kicks off in March 2022 – the company’s birthday month – with a series of commemorative sailings that will feature special entertainment and itineraries then continue all year long, culminating with the arrival of Carnival Celebration to Miami in November 2022. Additional information on the March 2022 sailings is available at www.carnival.com/sailabration.

Carnival Celebration’s itineraries will be announced over the coming weeks and the ship will be opening up for sale in October.

I love helping you plan your cruises! I am a huge Carnival Cruise Line fan as well. We are going on our 11th Carnival Cruise on the Mardi Gras in May of 2021. Please Email me for more information.

SeaWorld Entertainment, Inc., one of the world’s leading theme park and entertainment companies, has announced a phased reopening (with capacity limitations) of SeaWorld Orlando, Aquatica Orlando, Discovery Cove, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, and Adventure Island on June 11, 2020. This announcement completes the list of when the Major Central Florida Theme Parks Plan to Reopen.

As the theme parks plan to reopen, those plans will include enhanced health and safety protocols for cleaning and sanitizing, physical distancing, face covering requirements, and temperature screening, as well as a focus on contactless payments. A new online reservation system will also help manage capacity so that guests can enjoy a safe and fun experience while maintaining physical distancing. The phased reopening plan was approved by the State of Florida.

In their announcement, SeaWorld Entertainment, Inc.’s interim CEO Mark Swanson, thanked Governor Desantis, Orange County Mayor Demings, Orlando Mayor Dyer, The Members of the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force, Tampa Mayor Castor, and Hillsborough County Administrator Merrill for their support of tourism in Central Florida as they prepare to open their Central Florida Parks.

Over the past two months, we have worked with state and local health officials, third party medical and epidemiology experts, and attraction industry leaders to enhance our strict health, safety, and cleanliness standards. We are committed to the health and safety of our guests, employees, and animals in our care, and will continue to follow the guidance from health officials as conditions evolve
Mark Swanson interim CEO SeaWorld Entertainment Inc.

Online Reservation System

To help manage capacity to maintain physical distancing within the parks, all parks will require advance online reservations. Guests will be asked to visit the reservation pages of park websites (listed below) where reservations will be required to guarantee entry given anticipated demand. Reservations will be available starting at 10:00AM ET on June 8, 2020.

All guests with existing tickets, Fun Cards, or Annual Passes must make a reservation using this system in advance in order to manage park capacity and maintain physical distancing so you can enjoy your day. They have reserved daily capacity for their valued Pass Members and Fun Card holders. Once you receive your reservation confirmation via email, you must bring that confirmation along with your single-day ticket, Fun Card, or Annual Pass to enter the park.

You do not need to use this system if you already purchased a date-specific single-day ticket.

Park Hours

I took a look at all 5 park’s hours for June-August of 2020. What I found is that each park will be closed at least 2 days a week throughout the summer months.

SeaWorld Orlando 10am-6pm closed Tuesday and Wednesday

Aquatica Orlando 10am-5pm closed Monday and Wednesday

Discovery Cove hours not listed closed Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay 10am-6pm closed Tuesday and Wednesday

Adventure Island 10am-6pm closed Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday

Animal Interactions

All animal exhibits will be open at SeaWorld Orlando. Line queues, viewing area, exhibit capacity and guest flow through exhibits may be adjusted or modified to maintain physical distancing. Guests will be able to enjoy presentations with modified seating to follow physical distancing measures; certain schedules and formats may be temporarily adjusted to maintain physical distancing requirements. For a list of temporary changes, please visit the park website.

As part of modified operational plans built into the Discovery Cove re-opening timeline, certain components of animal meet-and-greets will be temporarily modified or unavailable. A special beach side dolphin presentation will be available to Discovery Cove guests with Signature Dolphin Swim reservations in lieu of the fully immersive experience to help maintain physical distancing.

In all open animal viewing spaces at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, they will add markings to queues to indicate required distancing. Certain animal interactions will be modified and only tours allowing for physical distancing will operate. Some tours and interactions will be restricted to one-party at a time.

When will You Visit a Central Florida Theme Park?

I am not a passholder to any of these 5 parks so, unless there is a media event, I won’t be visiting any time soon. I could really enjoy a day at any of these parks though. I have a work event on June 11th so I wouldn’t be able to be at any of the re-openings any way.

It’s ok though. I am just happy that the Central Florida theme parks plan to reopen in the near future and the travel business is starting to come alive again.

Two years ago, even before Jordan had proposed to Savannah, he knew they would be going on a Carnival cruise for their honeymoon. While we were on our 2017 Multi Generational Friends and Family Cruise, we received a flier about a unique itinerary aboard the Vista. He knew that would be his honeymoon and they planned the wedding around the cruise. Savannah, who had never cruised before, was afraid she’d be bored and asked, “What’s there to do on a Carnival Cruise?”

There's plenty to do and you can choose how much or little you want to do!" class="wp-image-56531" srcset="https://themommaven.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/what-to-do-title.jpg 634w, https://themommaven.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/what-to-do-title-400x227.jpg 400w, https://themommaven.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/what-to-do-title-185x105.jpg 185w, https://themommaven.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/what-to-do-title-560x318.jpg 560w" sizes="(max-width: 634px) 100vw, 634px" />

Of course, we assured there were lots of activities they could participate in, if they chose to, or they could just relax. In the two years since she asked that question I have had several other people ask the same thing. People are so afraid they will be bored on a ship in the middle of the ocean. Let me assure you, that is not the case!

There are two ways to find out about what is going on around the ship, your Carnival Hub app and the FUNTIMES which is left in your stateroom each evening. I use both of these on every cruise. I find it easier to look at the day as a whole in the FUNTIMES but then I go to the app and favorite everything I think I might want to do. By doing this, the app alerts me 15 minutes before an activity and then I can decide if I want to go or not.

Just Some of the Carnival Cruise Activities You Can Choose From

Organized Activities Not your Thing? You Can Always…

Sunbathe

Swim

Read

Sleep

Talk

Watch TV

People watch

Listen to live music

Dance

So, I hope you can see that there is no need to fear boredom on a Carnival cruise. You can do as much, or as little as you want. On our most recent cruise we napped every afternoon and it was glorious! It’s your cruise, have fun.

Every Carnival Cruise that departs in October is filled with Halloween activities for the whole family! Why not plan your fall getaway today?

Last summer Ron and I decided we needed a fall getaway so we booked a 4 night Carnival Cruise to the Bahamas on the Carnival Liberty. Yes, you know I am a huge fan of 7-8 night cruises but we have learned that sometimes a 4 night can be just what we need when we need to escape. We had done a different 4 night on the Liberty in May of 2016 so we knew the ship and thankfully we even knew the Cruise Director, Chris “Donkey” Salazar!

The dates that worked in our busy fall schedule meant that we would be cruising over Halloween. We aren’t big Halloween people and we were a bit hesitant about booking Halloween on the Fun Ships but in the end we decided to give it a try. We re so glad we did, we had a great time!

Carnival Cruise Line celebrates Halloween all October long, so your cruise dates don’t have to fall over the 31st like ours did. All cruises departing in the month of October include the Halloween festivities.

The Fun Squad on the Carnival Liberty 2018 Halloween Cruise.

One day of your cruise will be designated as “Halloween” and that is when the costumes come out. Most people don’t dress in their costumes til evening. Many, like us, wore their costumes to dinner in the Main Dining Room, and then to all of the evening’s events.

Carnival Cruise Line Halloween Costume Guidelines

Both adults and children are encouraged to bring costumes and join in the fun. Guests may wear masks only in special function areas and guests must be identifiable. Masks must be removed when in common areas. Clothing with objectionable material, including obscene language or graphics is not permitted. Clothing which, by nature, exposes excessive portions of the skin that may be viewed as inappropriate for a family environment is not permitted. Costumes may not contain any weapons that resemble or could easily be mistaken for an actual weapon. Costumes may not contain sharp objects, pointed objects or materials that may accidentally strike another Guest. Guests who do not adhere to the costume guidelines may be refused entry into, and/or removed from, the event, unless his or her costume can be modified to meet the above standards. All costume guidelines apply throughout the duration of any and all costumed events. We do not allow real pumpkins on board. All rules, regulations and guidelines are subject to change without notice.
from Carnival’s website

We had a blast! We went as pirates, I even wore a red and black wig! We wore our costumes to Patch’s Spook-tacular Bingo, dinner, and all of the other events leading up to Patch’s Pumpin’ Deck Party, Costume Crawl, and Costume Contest. It was all so much fun, we are booked on the Carnival Elation October 19th so we can do it again!

One thing I noticed on this cruise, and I will do it next time we go on a Halloween cruise, was giving candy to the crew. Many guests brought little gift bags of Halloween candy for the Fun Squad, wait staff, stateroom stewards and others. It was nice seeing these hardworking individuals, who make your cruise so fun, be blessed in this way.

Those who would like to stay in one destination and explore that place, a Caribbean vacation would be a great idea. You may visit sites like https://www.visitcaymanislands.com/en-us/experiences/tours-adventures to book a travel package for Cayman Islands.

Updated 12-26-2019

Carnival Cruise Line’s Mardi Gras is now open for sale of its inaugural schedule for 2020. The Carnival Mardi Gras will begin sailing from Port Canaveral November 14, 2020.

Guests can choose from more than 20 different stateroom categories and multiple levels of spacious and luxurious suites, more than on any other Carnival ship. A large range of stateroom options provides guests the opportunity to further personalize their vacation experiences and includes special staterooms and suites such as Family Harbor, Havana Cabana and Cloud 9 Spa accommodations, as well as a wide selection of suites, balcony, ocean view and interior staterooms. Don’t forget to bring the items on my Top 10 Must Pack Cruise Essentials List.

Carnival Mardi Gras Inaugural Schedule

Mardi Gras will kick off its seven-day program from the Space Coast November 14, 2020, offering two different three-port, seven-day itineraries, alternating weekly to the eastern and western Caribbean featuring some of the region’s most beautiful and popular ports. This is almost a month later than originally planned.

On December 20, 2020 Carnival announced that the ship will be delayed and it canceled several European and repositioning cruises as well as 4 sailings that were planned from port Canaveral.

“We have been working closely with Meyer Turku executives to keep the Mardi Gras delivery on schedule, and while we deeply regret disappointing our guests, this change in the delivery date is required to make sure all of the ship’s systems, features and technology will be fully operational, so that we can give our guests the vacation they expect,” said Ben Clement, Carnival Cruise Line’s senior vice president of newbuild. “Our commitment is to deliver a great and innovative ship, and Mardi Gras will definitely be that when it arrives in North America.”

Last week I shared why you should plan a multigenerational cruise with your friends and family. Today I’m going to share some tips on how to organize this seemingly overwhelming task and still love your friends and family by the time you board the ship.

1. Use a Travel Agent with Group Cruising Experience

I am not just saying this because I am a travel agent. When we went on our first group cruise, I was not a travel agent. I used a travel agent with group experience and she made all the difference in the world. A travel agent’s service are FREE the destination/cruise line pays them for booking and servicing their clients. Travel Agents are trained to help get you the best deals and make sure all your needs are met. Most cruise lines will assign you one of their in-house travel agents for group travel anyway because it is too much for a lay person to handle. In my experience, you are better off choosing your own travel agent over the in-house ones. In-house travel agents care more about the bottom line and upselling you every chance they get. Personal travel agents want to make their guests happy and meet their every need.

2. Appoint a Group Leader

Choose 1 person from the group, someone who is organized and capable to be the group leader. They are the one in touch with the travel agent and doing the extra work of regularly communicating with the group. As a bonus, on most cruise lines if you book 16 berths (beds) and/or 8 staterooms you earn 1 free berth. So, the group leader could cruise for free if the group meets the cruise line’s requirements. bonus!

3. Start a Private Facebook Group

A private Facebook group is the easiest way for group members to communicate about the trip. Questions can be asked and answered, information can be shared, plans can be made and everything is in one central location. We also use this group to share photos after the cruise.

4. Set some Ground Rules

Our multigenerational cruise groups have 3 basic rules:
a) We eat dinner in the main dining room together each night. The exceptions for this are if you arrive back late from a shore excursion and don’t have time to dress for dinner, or if you are dining in the steakhouse with your spouse for a special evening.
b) At least one person in each stateroom with an iPhone gets the social media internet plan. This way we can communicate via iMessage. We send out messages like “Ron and I are going to play Sorry on deck 5 at 11am anyone want to join us?” or “We are eating lunch by the pizzaria we have room at our table if anyone wants to join us.”
c) We set aside time before dinner on one night to have a group photo taken. Unfortunately, on our last cruise 1 couple didn’t show up so they aren’t in our photo

Those are our “rules” This is a vacation, it’s YOUR vacation, you don’t want a bunch of rules to follow. Have fun, go your own way, meet up for dinner and share with everyone else about your adventures. Spend as much or as little time with the rest of the group as you would like.

5. Plan for the oldest and youngest in Your Multigenerational Cruise Group

Cruising with extended family is awesome. My kids loved to cruise when they were young, I couldn’t get them out of the kids camp to spend time with us! Make sure the kids get to plan some of the activities. Also, make sure parents with young kids get a break, and plan this in advance. Maybe mom and dad would love to go zip lining in St Thomas but 5yr old Tommy is too young. This is a great opportunity for grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends to step up and bless this couple by offering to either stay on board with Tommy or take him on an age appropriate shore excursion. Either way you are making memories.

Cruising with senior citizens who may also need some extra assistance is still fun, if it is planned. Maybe Grandpa uses a scooter and get tender off the ship in Grand Cayman but Grandma really wants to go to Sting Ray City with the teenage grandkids. Plan for someone to stay on the ship and do activities with Grandpa so he doesn’t feel left out.

I love going on multigenerational cruises with our friends and family. Yes, it takes a little more work, but the fun and memories are worth it. I always remember to bring the items on my Top 10 Must Pack Cruise Essentials List. If you are ready to plan your cruise Email Me I work with Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, and Disney Cruise Lines and I am excited to help you.

Top 5 Reasons Your Family Should Go On a Multigenerational Cruise

5. Activities

On most land based vacations it is hard to keep everyone from toddler to senior citizen happy and engaged at the same time. On a cruise there are so many activity options including childcare, kids camps, pools, water slides, bingo, trivia games, art auctions, dance lessons, visit the spa, workout and much more. There is always something from everyone to do and of course a nap in your stateroom or by the pool is always an option too.

4. Accommodations

The cruise ships of the 21st Century have many different types of accommodations for families, couples and some even have staterooms for singles. Want an interior stateroom, ocean view stateroom, veranda stateroom, junior suite, or full suite? The choice is yours and each family can get a stateroom that suits their needs and wants.

3. Food

Everyone knows that food is an important feature on any cruise vacation. On a cruise there is food for the pickiest and the most adventurist eater in the group as well as everyone in between. Cruise ships are also increasing their offerings for those who are embracing a Vegan, Vegetarian, or gluten-free lifestyle.

2. Balance

This IS your vacation and you probably don’t want to spend 24/7 with your extended family or friends. Unlike a theme park vacation where everyone schleps around together, a cruise allows you to have as much or as little time to yourself as you would like. This balance makes this vacation enjoyable for everyone. Next week I’ll give you more ideas as to how to ensure that balance even before you get on the ship.

1. Memories

Almost every time we are together as extended family, a memory or 2 of one of our cruises comes up. On a cruise all ages of family members can share experiences, visit new places, and try new things. Those memories and stories are what make us want to take more multigenerational cruises, so we can make more memories.

If you are considering a cruise vacation please feel free to Email Me. I specialize in planning cruise vacations as a travel agent with Destinations to Travel and I am happy to help you.

It’s time to take a look back and see which travel post you read the most in 2017. I always find this interesting.
Look What’s Coming to Walt Disney World in 2017.
This post gave an overview of the Happily Ever After nighttime spectacular at the Magic Kingdom, the Rivers of Light nighttime show at Animal Kingdom and the most anticipated new land at Walt Disney World for 2017, Pandora-The World of Avatar. I had the opportunity to experience all three of these new offerings at Walt Disney World this year and I love Happily Ever After and Avatar. I saw Rivers of Light Once and as far as I’m concerned, I don’t need to see it again.

Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival Opens March 1 was an overview of what’s new and what’s returning to one of the biggest festivals at Epcot. There was new food, new music, and new topiaries at the 2017 festival. Stay tuned to find out what’s new in 2018.

Top Travel Post 3

2017 Disney Candlelight Processional Celebrity Narrators post was a bit late this year, because Disney was late announcing all of the narrators. Picking which narrators to see is a big deal for a lot of Disney guests. This year we were able to see both Pat Sajak and Jodi Benson.

Top Travel Post 2

My 2017 Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Dates Announced post always gets a lot of visitors because many people plan their vacations around the party dates. If you haven’t attended Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party or Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, I hope you will make plans to attend next year.

On our recent cruise aboard the Carnival Magic, Ron and I received a complimentary Carnival Steakhouse Dinner. As you know, complimentary or not, I always share my 100% honest opinions on all of our adventures.

This was our eighth Carnival Cruise, our first aboard the Magic. We have never eaten in the Carnival Steakhouse before for one reason…it costs extra. Ron is frugal when it comes to dining out. If we can’t eat for under $40 at a restaurant, we don’t go to that restaurant, period. So paying $35 per person to eat on a cruise, when amazing food is available in the Main Dining Room or on the Lido Deck, just doesn’t make sense to him. Thankfully, we were blessed to be able to give it a try.

We booked our dinner in the Carnival Steakhouse from the phone in our stateroom. You can also book online before your cruise, or at the Carnival Steakhouse kiosk on the ship. We chose to dine at 6:00pm, the same time we would normally eat in the Main Dining Room so that we would remain on schedule with the rest of the family for the evening.

We checked in at the steakhouse just before 6:00pm. We were seated right away. We had two very attentive waitresses. The steakhouse seats approximately 50 people so it is a more intimate and quiet dining experience. You are still very close to the other tables so it is nice but not super romantic.

My 18oz Spice-rubbed Prime Ribeye Steak

The Carnival Steakhouse Food

The menu for the Carnival Steakhouse is full of delicious sounding choices. First we were brought a small tomato soup and some different breads to choose from. Next they brought by a tray with the different cuts of meat on it so that you could see the size and cut you would be choosing. We placed our orders for our appetizer, salad, and entree with side dish. I chose the Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail, Sliced, Sun-Ripened Beefsteak Tomato, the 18oz Spice-rubbed Prime Ribeye Steak, and Baked Potato with all the trimmings. Ron ordered the Grilled Portobello Mushroom, Classic Caesar Salad, the 18oz Spice-rubbed Prime Ribeye Steak, and the Steamed Broccoli.

Our meals were amazing. Everything was cooked to perfection. The ribeyes were done just as we asked and were very flavorful. I thoroughly enjoyed my beefsteak tomato. The meal is well paced, you don’t feel rushed, but you also don’t notice too much lag time either. We were amazed that we each polished off an 18oz ribeye! It was just so good, you HAD to keep eating. As we were sitting there stuffed to the gills, the waitress came and asked what we would like for dessert. Did we have room for dessert? Well, I ordered the Cheesecake with Hazelnut Biscuit and Ron ordered the Sherbet. Honestly, the cheesecake was a let down. It was rather dry. Since I wasn’t very hungry I didn’t mind leaving most of the cheesecake behind. Next time I’ll order the Chocolate Sampler.

Is the Carnival Steakhouse Worth the Extra Money?

In one word, yes. I would love to return to the Carnival Steakhouse on a future cruise. While Ron would never be persuaded to pay for it, I would, just like I do all our “fancy” meals when we travel. I usually set aside money when we travel for 1 or 2 dining experiences that don’t fall in Ron’s budget. On future cruises, I will take us to the Carnival Steakhouse. The quality of the food, the ambiance, and the entire dining experience are worth the extra cost.

The high seas have gone high tech. I have been cruising for 13 years and the technological advances available to cruise guests over that time have been vast. On our recent Bahamian cruise aboard the Carnival Liberty we checked out the Carnival Hub app which is now available across the Carnival Cruise Line fleet. This app has some great features and it received a significant upgrade since our cruise so I can’t wait to check it out on our August Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Carnival Magic!

About the Carnival Hub App

The Carnival Hub app is available for free from both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. I highly suggest you download the app before you leave for your cruise, the free wifi on board is often very slow, especially in the first few hours before the ship leaves port. The app also works as a countdown calendar before your vacation so that is a little added fun! At the time of this writing my app says my next cruise is 57 days away!

Once you board the ship, open the Carnival Hub app and click “I’m Onboard, Log Me In” at the bottom of the screen. This is when the app comes to life. You can view and interact with the digital Fun Times deciding what activities you want to attend. Click the star icon next to an activity and your app will alert your 15 minutes before that activity is about to begin. You can also view all of your dining and beverage options on the app. The most recent upgrade even added the menu for the Main Dining Room. The app has searchable deck plans so you can find your way around your floating home away from home. You can even purchase the CHEERS and Bottomless Bubbles drink programs from your app once you are onboard the ship. The latest upgrade also added a weather feature! All of the above features are free and run on the free Carnival wifi, just put your phone in airplane mode so that you don’t accidentally receive large charges if you lose wifi signal.

For the low price of $5.00 per device you can use the messaging feature of the Carnival Hub app. Find your friends and family who are onboard and add them to your messaging page. Ron and I did this on our last cruise and we found out that to use this properly you need to keep the app running all the time which, on some phones, could eat into battery life.

Mom Maven’s Thoughts

I loved having the free info on the Carnival Hub app in my pocket at all times. The additions of menus and weather will be great on my next cruise. The messaging worked ok but sometimes I closed my app, because I always close all my apps, and missed messages from my husband. I think this will just get better as we move forward and the technology evolves but what we have is a great start.
