It’s almost time for my favorite holiday event in Tampa Bay, Busch Gardens Christmas Town returns November 12 – January 2nd! I wrote about our 2017 visit to Christmas Town here. It’s a family favorite event that we have been attending since it began in 2012. Our favorite thing is the Holly Jolly Express singalong train. We are a family of musicians so we love to sing, in 4-part harmony.

Tampa’s biggest and brightest holiday event opens earlier this year with millions of twinkling holiday lights throughout the park’s 335 acres, spectacular fireworks, and a brand-new experience with Santa that will create merry memories for guests of all ages. Included in park admission, the award-winning holiday event features all-new activities for the whole family, including:

New! Holiday in the Sky Fireworks Show: Enjoy classic holiday tunes and watch festive bursts of Christmas colors as they cover the sky in a dazzling fireworks display. Holiday in the Sky is offered on the Festival Field every Saturday and select event nights, beginning November 13

New! Storytime with Mrs. Claus: Located in the Coke Canopy near the Christmas Town Village, Mrs. Claus will share traditional holiday tales and a joyful song.

New! Santa’s North Pole Experience, presented by Coca-Cola: Jolly elves guide guests to see Santa in his workshop as he prepares for the holiday season.

Other fan favorite holiday entertainment returning to this year’s Florida-style winter wonderland includes:

“Christmas on Ice”: Busch Gardens’ longest running holiday show returns to the Moroccan Palace Theater. This inspiring skating production transforms the stage with incredible feats of skating athleticism for a truly unmissable show set to holiday classic songs.

Elmo’s Christmas Wish: Join Cookie Monster, Rosita, Grover, and Zoe as they help Elmo find his Christmas wish! Families are sure to be singing and dancing along while watching this fun holiday show.

Three Kings Journey: The musical tale of the famed journey to Bethlehem is celebrated in the round at the Stanleyville Theater.

Holly Jolly Express: All aboard for Christmas Cheer! This locomotive is on track to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year with the favorite songs of the season as guests venture through the park.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: Journey to Rudolph’s Winter Wonderland to find the most famous reindeer of all.

As guests dash through the night between iconic rollercoasters, they can explore the Christmas Town Village: a delicious destination filled with drinks and dishes from an indulgent holiday menu. These unique, limited time options include NEW specialty cocktails like the “Mistletoe Margarita” and the “Apple Brandy Hot Toddy”. Complete the night with a signature Christmas Town Hot Chocolate featuring festive flavors like peppermint or gingerbread. Feel the spirit of the season in each bite with the new maple bourbon pecan pie or feast on holiday favorites like the smoked brisket “totchos.” The best way for guests to savor and save during the holidays is with a Christmas Town Sampler Lanyard, starting at ONLY $44.99 for an 8-punch lanyard.

We can’t wait to nibble on treats and drink Christmas Town Hot Chocolate while we wander through Christmas Town Village. We are excited for a new fireworks show and to see “Christmas on Ice” back in the Moroccan Palace Theater. We hope we get to meet Rudolph and Santa this year as well. I am sad to see the “The Most Wonderful Time” show isn’t listed this year. It’s a family tradition to watch that while we eat dinner. Hopefully it is still there, just not listed on the program…yet.

It’s time to send out the family text and choose a date to visit Christmas Town! I’m ready to get my Christmas on!

We spent Thanksgiving afternoon and evening at Busch Gardens and Christmas Town and we had a blast! We are so thankful to have been invited by Busch Gardens to check out Christmas Town 2017. Savannah, Jordan’s fiancee, was visiting from Michigan so this was her first trip to Busch Gardens and seeing how Floridians celebrate a green Christmas. We arrived at the park at about 3:15pm, most of the Christmas Town activities ramp up at 6:00pm, with the character meet and greets starting at 2:00pm, so we wandered the park and the guys hit up a few rides before the Christmas festivities began. Since it was Thanksgiving the crowds were incredibly light and we were able to accomplish a lot of attractions in a short amount of time.

Visiting Santa’s House at Christmas Town

Our first Christmas Town activity was visiting Santa’s House. We were greeted by Half Pint the elf who escorted us into the house, where we met Mrs Claus in the living room. We got to peek into her kitchen before heading down the hall to meet Santa in his study. Santa took lots of pictures with us with both the professional photographers and our own cameras. He even suggested we take an “Elfie” with him. The entire interaction was lovely and we were not rushed at all. We didn’t purchase any of the photo packages because they are expensive, starting at $30.00 and going up.

Meeting Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Friends

We wandered the park some more and headed over to Pantopia where we found Rudolph’s Winter Wonderland. As you enter this area there are several games themed around the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer television special. I really wanted to play Sam the Snowman’s Snowball Toss because one of the prizes was a stuffed Hermie the Elf but again at $5.00 a game it was cost prohibitive for our budget. Once you walk past the games there are scenes from the TV special that uou can pose for pictures with. Finally you arrive at the meet and greet area. We were able to meet with Sam the Snowman, Bumble, Rudolph, and Clarice. I was looking forward to meeting Yukon Cornelius but he wasn’t available when we were there. There is an adorable gift shop at the end of the meet and greet area with lots of Rudolph themed merchandise.

We kept walking and we arrived at Christmas Time Terrace just in time to catch the first 50-foot Christmas Tree light show of the evening. Next we jumped on the Sky Ride to head back towards the Edge of Africa. We arrived just in time for the Carol of the Bells Light Show. We strolled through Penguin Point on our way to the Christmas Town Express for a ride on the Christmas Town Sing-Along Train. Being a family of musicians, we had a blast singing in 4 part harmony, with the musical track singing melody. We sang, laughed, and had a jolly old time!

We rode the Sky Ride back across the park to finish our Christmas Town tour. We wandered through Miracle Way, saw part of Elmo’s Christmas Wish, visited the Three Kings Oasis, caught the end of the Three Kings Journey, and got some delicious donuts in Christmas Town Village. We walked through Holiday Hills and listened to the Holiday Hills Band on our way to Celebration Village and ultimately the park exit.

Mom Maven’s Thoughts on Christmas Town at Busch Gardens

We had a wonderful time at Christmas Town. We were sad that we missed so many of the shows, we were always on the wrong side of the park at showtime! We made some fun family memories and we hope to come back again next year. Christmas Town is taking place at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay on select nights through December 31st and is included in the price of admission. Christmas Town is an amazing holiday event for the entire family!

Friday night our family visited Christmas Town at Busch Gardens in Tampa. This is the second year for the event but it was our first year attending. We went on opening night and crowds were very light. At times it felt like we had the whole park to ourselves.

Our first stop was Snow World presented by Coca-Cola. This is a 15,000 sq foot winter wonderland. There is an area for playing in the snow, riding snow slides and throwing snow (ice) balls at targets. My kids had a blast throwing the snowballs.

Next we wandered through Christmas Town Village, Poinsettia Parkway and the Enchanted Flamingo Valley.

The poinsettias and light displays were beautiful but this is where we started to run into the one big problem we noticed around the park, the fact that many walk ways are not lit well enough to walk comfortably. There were several very dark areas and we had to pull out our cell phones and use our flashlights to walk around.

We walked the beautiful Miracle Way and admired the nativity. Next we stopped at our favorite Busch Gardens eatery, The Zambia Smokehouse. Unfortunately the outdoor seating area is not lit and this is a photo I took of my dinner plate without using a flash…I told you it was dark. It is very difficult to eat barbecue and hold a cellphone/flashlight at the same time.

This is what we could see of our dinner in the dark at Christmas Town.

We enjoyed the Christmas Time Tree Show, especially after my son explained the technology behind turning a 40 ft Christmas Tree into a video wall. You want to stand back, away from the tree to get the full effect of this show.

We wandered through Holiday Hills on our way to the Christmas Town Sing-Along Train. I was excited because I like to sing, my kids didn’t want to ride with me, but they did. Unfortunately the sing-along host, Gary was a bit too over the top and most of the guests in our train car spent more time making jokes about him than they did singing. I think maybe this would be better if they had some additional hosts maybe one in every other train car to help get the riders more involved in the sing-along. We made a brief stop at Penguin Point on our way to ride Cheetah Hunt (with a zero minute wait). The kids rode twice and hubby even rode once. When the rides were finished we watched the Carol of the Bells show. We finished out our night with the Angels of Peace Ice Show.

The Mom Maven’s Thoughts on Christmas Town

This is a nice family friendly Christmas event that the entire family will love. The admission price is reasonable and there is plenty of time to see all the shows and ride your favorite Busch Gardens attractions. I do suggest you bring a small flashlight with you so that you can light up the walking paths, and your dinner plates! I hope to add Christmas Town to our growing list of family Christmas traditions.

Here are some fun facts about Christmas Town.

For the second year, Christmas Town returns to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay for 18 select nights this holiday season. I missed this event last year and I am hoping to attend this year so I can give you a full review of the event. In July of 2012 I went to the media event announcing Christmas Town, you can read about that here. This year Christmas Town boasts some new events, more snow and more lights to help you make more memories with your friends and family.

About Christmas Town

`Tis the season for family traditions! Last year, Busch Gardens® Tampa launched the biggest Christmas celebration ever, and this year, Christmas Town has even more jolly times in store! This year, Christmas Town has more snow, even more event nights and more than a million twinkling lights! Christmas Town transforms the park into a nighttime holiday wonderland of wintery surprises and all things Christmas, filling guests’ senses with seasonal sights, sounds and flavors, and continuing a beautiful tradition for Tampa’s families. What’s even better than that? A portion of the proceeds from Christmas Town will benefit All Children’s Hospital here in the Bay area.

This year’s event has added even more nights to experience all-new evening attractions, shows and shopping. Christmas Town is open 18 select nights from 6 to 11 p.m., Nov. 29 through Dec. 23.

NEW THIS YEAR! Enjoy unlimited admission to all 18 nights of Christmas Town with the Christmas Town Unlimited ticket for just $89 plus tax for adults and $29 plus tax for children.

NEW THIS YEAR! This year’s event also introduces Discovery Dollars, a new cashless wristband that can be preloaded with cash or linked to a credit card. Dollars can be used at merchandise and dining locations around Christmas Town to make your family’s night even merrier! Guests who set up accounts with cash can visit Guest Relations upon their exit to have unspent money returned. Unclaimed monies will be donated to SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund.

And while Christmas Town brings exclusive Yuletide experiences, guests will also have the opportunity to ride some of Busch Gardens’ most popular roller coasters, including Cheetah Hunt, SheiKra and Gwazi. The special event includes attractions exclusive to the nighttime experience:

This year, SnowWorld® Presented by Coca-Cola® brings real snow back to Florida! This guest favorite is bigger than ever for even more snow-filled fun! Slide down eight new slides, make a snowman, play in the soft white snow or pack the perfect snow balls to test your aim in the target practice area.

All aboard the Christmas Town Express for the biggest Christmas carol sing-a-long on wheels. Friends and family are invited join in singing traditional songs of the season like “Jingle Bells,” “Frosty the Snowman” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” while circling the Serengeti on a beautifully lit vintage-style steam locomotive.

The Claus family invites you into their North Pole home at Welcome to Santa’s House. While the elves are busy preparing for Christmas, Mrs. Claus is in the kitchen baking holiday treats, but even Santa himself will take a break from his busy holiday schedule to meet and take photos with families in his private study.

Straight from the South Pole, the Christmas Town penguins have brought a bit of ice and snow all the way to Florida! Come chill with these dapper little creatures and marvel at their underwater antics at the newly expanded Penguin Point, complete with a giant penguin photo opportunity in the Nairobi area.

Even Busch Gardens’ most familiar fans will barely recognize the portions of the park that convert to Christmas Town through special entertainment, live music, festive treats, holiday shopping and more than one million twinkling Christmas lights:

NEW! Enjoy a trip back in time to celebrate Christmas in the good ‘ole days in Holiday Hills. In this nostalgic town, a live brass band sets the mood for seasonal fun with everyone’s favorite Christmas tunes while Mrs. Claus cooks up delicious holiday fare for the whole family at Mrs. Claus’s Family Feast.

NEW! Journey into Jungala to see a nature-inspired Christmas, including a new tree light show in Christmas Time Terrace. A larger-than-life Christmas tree comes alive every fifteen minutes with spectacular dancing lights. The breathtaking light show on this 40-foot tree is the perfect place for this year’s family photo.

NEW! Sneak a kiss with your sweetheart in the beautiful garden walkway of Mistletoe Memories. Here, romantic topiaries, flowers and sparkling white twinkle lights fill the trees overhead and set the scene for sweet moments with loved ones and beautiful photos worth cherishing.

Celebration Village brings together the rich, warm colors of Christmas and heartfelt voices lifted in song to welcome guests as they enter Christmas Town. Draped in jewel-tone ornaments and glowing lights, the Moroccan Village comes alive with local choirs in the Marrakesh Theater and shops full of holiday gifts.

Family and friends will cozy up to brave the chill in the air along Ice Wonder Way. The frozen pathway sparkles and shimmers in the night as brilliant white garland wraps the front of the Moroccan Palace, welcoming guests for special performances of Angels of Peace: A Christmas Journey on Ice.

Wild colors, exotic decorations and intricate animal patterns create the kind of Christmas found only in nature! Stretching along the Cheetah Hunt walkway, Jungle Jubilee welcomes guests to Florida’s only triple-launch coaster and the iconic Crown Colony restaurant, featuring special holiday fare and the Carol of the Bells light show.

Experience the humble magnificence of that first Christmas night and remember the real “reason for the season” along Miracle Way. Guests will marvel at a topiary representation of the Holy Nativity and illuminated angels, set along the Stanleyville Bridge in the warm glow of Christmas lights and sacred holiday music.

Christmas has come to Sesame Street! Meet Elmo, Bert, Ernie, Big Bird, Zoe and Abby for photos and plenty of hugs for a funny, furry Christmas in Sesame Street A Very Furry Christmas at Busch Gardens. Stick around to see the characters in the all-new, heartwarming show Elmo’s Christmas Wish.

When it’s warm in December and there’s more sand than snow, celebrate a Floridian Christmas with a touch of the tropics in the Enchanted Flamingo Valley. Guests will be “thinking pink” as they encounter decorated palm trees and a flock of festive flamingos created from thousands of twinkling pink lights.

Christmas is in full bloom along Poinsettia Parkway, where guests can lose themselves among hundreds of traditional holiday flowers that set the scene for breathtaking pictures. Make a family memory in front of an enormous tree made entirely of beautiful red poinsettias.

On your way to seasonal shops, delicious treats or to play in the snow, stop by Jingle Bell Junction and step into a larger-than-life-sized greeting card for fun family memories beneath a thousand dazzling Christmas lights, located at the crossroads of Christmas Town in Gwazi® Plaza.

Explore Christmas Town Village’s quaint holiday cabins while shopping for the perfect gift and indulge in a delicious seasonal treat like hot chocolate, waffles with ice cream, warm-baked cookies and rustic sandwiches along the Gwazi® Park walkway. Kids can climb aboard the Jingle Bell Express, a pint-sized train for a holly-jolly ride.

Steps away from the playful flock at Penguin Point, bright and colorful lights line the pathway and fill every branch of every tree surrounding the North Pole. Savor holiday treats and sights as your family prepares to meet the big man himself on the way to Welcome to Santa’s House.

Guests who have come to love Busch Gardens’ traditional holiday shows will still be able to see Christmas on Ice, Christmas from the Heart and Christmas Celebration during the day. But at Christmas Town, new shows will provide a very special evening of family-friendly entertainment:

NEW! Join Elmo, Cookie Monster, Zoe and everyone’s favorite Sesame Street friends in Christmas Town’s all-new show, Elmo’s Christmas Wish. Sing and dance along with Elmo as he makes a Christmas wish to Santa and learns the meaning behind Christmas.

NEW! Christmas Time Tree Show brings a larger-than-life Christmas tree alive every fifteen minutes with spectacular dancing lights.

NEW! Join the adventure as everyone’s favorite Madagascar friends including Gloria, Alex, King Julien and the penguins go on a vacation with a Christmas twist in Madagascar Live! Operation: Christmas Vacation. Fun and colorful holographic ornaments fill the trees overhead on the plaza pathway leading to this all-new show.

World-class skaters will bring to life favorite Christmas songs both traditional and contemporary, in a cool, angel-inspired ice show, Angels of Peace: A Christmas Journey on Ice, produced especially for Christmas Town by the creators of Christmas on Ice and Iceploration.

Busch Gardens’ Crown Colony House restaurant sets the stage for a stunning ballet of music and light each night under the stars. The Carol of the Bells features tens of thousands of Christmas lights covering the façade of the stately building set in motion to a choreographed presentation of stirring seasonal songs.

Local church choirs, school choruses and professional performance groups from around Florida raise their voices in joy and fill the Marrakesh Theater with song and Christmas cheer in the Hallelujah Showcase. Performance groups will change nightly and feature traditional, classic and new holiday ballads and favorites.

For those who can’t wait to get their night at Christmas Town started, guests are invited to pull up a chair at Mrs. Claus’ Family Feast for a special evening filled with stories, songs, a delicious buffet of traditional holiday fare, plenty of opportunities for holiday hugs and photos with Mrs. Claus and her favorite elves. Space is limited for this exclusive dining experience and reservations must be made in advance at ChristmasTown.com

“Christmas Town is a unique holiday tradition for Tampa Bay-area families,” says Jim Dean, Busch Gardens Tampa’s park president. “We’ve creating a season-long celebration for family and friends unlike any other event our guests have ever seen – the kind of Christmas fun only Busch Gardens can provide.”
