After 2 long days of sitting in the car my hips were hurting. On Thursday, we spent the day decorating the tent for the reception. While doing that I got to stretch my hips out, thank goodness, but then my knees started hurting from all of the walking around and going up and down stairs, we seldom have to do stairs in Florida! Friday afternoon we took a bit of a break from all the wedding prep to visit Savannah’s favorite Michigan beach at Grand Haven State Park. The beach was lovely and the water was a crisp 65°. We walked along the beach, which is always difficult with my knees, then we walked part way out on the pier to the lighthouse. By then my knees were hurting and I knew I couldn’t make it to the end of the pier and then all the way across the beach back to our car so, unfortunately, we had to cut our visit short and cut through the camping area so that I didn’t need to navigate the sand again.
I get so frustrated when my knee and/or hip pain make me miss out on activities I love. I feel even worse when my pain causes others to miss out on the fun too. Anyway we went back to the hotel and got ready for the wedding rehearsal and dinner. I know firsthand that knee and hip pain can often affect more than just your physical mobility. It can also affect your personal relationships. I am so thankful that I have an understanding and caring husband and family. They get it when I need to take a break. I hate it though because I feel like I can do more but the knee pain keeps me down. If your pain is affecting your relationships it might be time to take the next step to find out if joint replacement surgery is an option to get you back to doing the things you love with the people you care about. Life is a lot more fun when you Hit Play.
Thankfully, wedding day went off without a hitch. I was able to do a few line dances and when it was time to do a mini swing dance lesson my friend Avery, who is an amazing swing dancer, danced with me and helped me through the basic steps. After about 2 songs I needed to take a break and get off my knees for a while. I love to dance and don’t have the opportunity to dance very often so I over did it, knowing I’d be hurting the next day.
Thankfully Sunday was just brunch and then we hit the road to Ohio so I was sitting most of the day and I could let my knees rest. We are very careful when doing a lot of driving to stop at least every 3 hours and get out and stretch and walk around. This really helps us feel better for the long haul. This trip really has me wondering if it is time for me to talk to my doctor about joint replacement surgery. I need to hop over to TimeToHitPlay and learn more about it.
