This book review is long over due. The book arrived just 2 days before Jordan hit the road with The 99. Jordan is my ukulele player and I needed his help with this review. Between his busy schedule and new life on the road it took him quite a while to get this video and review done.

Ukulele for Exercises Dummies is an intermediate level book for ukulele players. This book assumes you know the basics of playing the instrument and how to finger some chords. Jordan has enjoyed playing from this book and has become a better ukulele player because of it.

Jordan’s Top 5 Takeaways- Ukulele Exercises for Dummies

  1. While there are several strumming techniques, either the index finger technique or the four-finger strumming technique works 99% of the time with most songs.
  2. Vary your strumming patterns to make them more interesting.
  3. The better the contact you make with a string, the richer the tone will be, and your picking becomes more accurate.
  4. Finger picking takes A LOT of practice or repetition to become good at it.
  5. Keep your fingers, wrist, arm and shoulder loose and relaxed while playing your ukulele.

If you have a budding ukulele player of any age on your Christmas list, Ukulele Exercises for Dummies would make a great gift.

I really enjoyed reading your blog post about the Ukulele for Dummies book. It’s a good review and I appreciate that you mention Jordan’s Top 5 Takeaways. I love that you mention the dedication and dedication to the instrument. It’s so interesting to read about the history of the ukulele and how it evolved from a Hawaiian instrument to what it is today.
