Let me start by saying two things: 1) I don’t do a lot of book reviews because they are time consuming. I love to read but I just don’t have the time in my current schedule to read for pleasure, or for reviews. Some books though, are worth the extra effort. This is one of those books. 2) I know the author. Bill and I worked together in Christian Radio in the early 90s. I had heard bits of this story back then and I am glad that he has finally put down his experiences for the world to read and learn from.
Last Spring Bill had posted information about The Day Satan Called on his Facebook wall. I contacted him and let him know I was interested in receiving more information about his book. He sent me a link to his YouTube page and I watched his first video and requested him to send me chapter 1 of his book. I read that chapter and remembered hearing bits of this story when we worked together 20 years ago. A few weeks ago Bill sent me a preview copy of his book and asked if I would review it, I couldn’t say no. The Day Satan Called is a book about one couple’s (Bill and his wife) true encounter with demon possession and exorcism.
I know some of you are saying, “Cindy, this doesn’t belong on The Mom Maven.” but it does. I, like Bill, was not raised in a church that spoke about spiritual warfare. It wasn’t until after I was saved and started attending a pentacostal church that I learned about the realities of spiritual warfare in our lives. Ephesians 6:12 states “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (KJV) Battles for souls are being waged in the heavenlies constantly. Our prayers matter and as blood-bought children of God we have authority over Satan and his minions, though we seldom use the power and authority we have. So this does fit on The Mom Maven because we as parents need to know and act on the authority God has given us so that we can protect our children and train up our children in the knowledge of spiritual things. I have witnessed events similar to those in this book. I do not doubt anything in this book.
In The Day Satan Called: A True Encounter with Demon Possession and Exorcism, Bill retells the spiritual warfare journey he went on after innocently answering the studio line during his radio show. His battle against Satan’s armies was difficult and not without casualties, these battles never are. Through his encounters Bill, his family, friends and co-workers saw both the evil power of Satan and the AWESOME power of God. They learned more in their experience than they ever could learn any other way. Now Bill is sharing his story to hopefully open your heart and mind to the amazing power of God and the truth that Satan still prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8).
As parents we are called upon by God to train up our children in the way they should go (Proverbs 22:6) as well as to care for their physical and spiritual well-being. Unfortunately too many of us allow Satan to get his foot in the door either out of ignorance or laziness. All Satan needs is a foothold to start doing his devious work in the lives of us and our children. Often we unwittingly open the door to evil by the things we allow in our houses-books, music, movies etc. Are there unholy things filling your minds and hearts? Magic, wizards, sorcery, vampires, fortune tellers? These are not harmless children’s books, movies etc Scripture is clear in Ephesians 5:11, “Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.” As Christians we are supposed to think on praiseworthy things. Philippians 4:8 in The Message puts it this way, “Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.”
Do you want to know what is out there? Not to scare you but so you can prepare for the battle? Jesus is more powerful than Satan and his armies and as Christian we have the right to do battle in the Name of Jesus. What good is a soldier who isn’t trained for battle? None. To train you must learn about your weapons and about your enemy. Reading The Day Satan Called: A True Encounter with Demon Possession and Exorcism is one tool in your tool belt to open your eyes to both the tactics of the enemy and the power of Almighty God. Of course the best tool is your Bible, read it…all of it!
So, does this book belong on The Mom Maven? Yes. My goal is to help you be the best mom (or dad) you can be and you can’t do that without preparing yourself and your children for the battles we all face.

Thanks for the review. Of course, we are always battling Satan, but through the power of Christ we can over come adveristy. This seems like a neat book.

Everyday is a battle with the enemy, so you must take every thought captive. Because there is 24 hours in a day and if you even let the enemy have a second, he will want every hour for himself and his activities. Great review! I think people definitely need to be aware of these kinds of things.

I hear he makes the meanest prank calls ever! Of course, what else would he be doing down there except tormenting people?

when i was married to my first husband we regularly attended churches that did spiritual warfare. i have seen this kind of thing first hand and while i do not talk Christianity now, i still believe in it. Exorcism is no joke. Great review. And yes it belongs here.
