Mom Maven’s Thoughts

This app is simple to use! You shoot your videos like normal and then you upload them to the app. About a week later the DVD arrives at your door and you have a safe, hard copy of your videos. I shot videos at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party on a Friday night. I uploaded them Saturday morning. It takes just a few minutes and it is super easy to do.
Just click on the videos you want to upload, one at a time and they upload rather quickly. (The grayed out videos have already been uploaded.) I would recommend a subscription for all parents who shoot a lot of video. A subscription would also make a great gift for parents.

The Boy’s Room Needs a Makeover

My sons are now 14 and 16 and starting 10th and 12th grade. They share a small 10×10′ bedroom and let me tell you it is tight in there. The last time we overhauled their bedroom was in April of 2004. It was actually a lot of fun. The boys went away on a 3 day camping trip with Royal Rangers and hubby and I did a “While You Were Out” makeover. We painted the walls and even built bunk beds. Yes, I did say built, I found plans for super sturdy bunk beds online, downloaded the plans and built the bed. The room has a NASCAR theme.

Now fast forward 5 years and my boys look like this:

When I heard that Walmart is working with Dr Mommy, Military_Mom,CraftyMamaof4,OrganizewithSandy and others to give away $500 Walmart gift cards to be used on Walmart’s Your Zone teen products I knew we needed to enter this contest. I gave my Creative Vado HD to my 16yo videographer and told him to make the video portion of our entry. Here is what he did.
Jordan is all about anything with orange in it so this is the comforter set he has chosen for the top bunk.
Aaron is less picky and just wants a “teen” room so he has chosen this comforter. I like how everything coordinates!

iVillage Summer Recipe Videos

As you know, I am not a great cook, though I aspire to be. I love finding and trying new, easy, affordable recipes. Today I found videos and recipes on iVillage.com. In case you aren’t familiar with it, iVillage is a women’s health, wellness, and beauty site with a great deal of information on a plethora of topics.

I get excited when I find videos posted with yummy recipes because I can see how easy the recipe truly is. Several of the iVillage videos feature Top Chef Contestant (and working mother) Ariane Duarte. The videos are are sponsored by Walmart and are from Momtorage.com, a site affiliated with iVillage.com’s pregnancy & parenting section.

I found a recipe for T-bone Steak with Garlic-Lime Butter and a Watermelon salad that looks perfect for our next family barbecue. The recipe is simple, only has a few ingredients and looks beautiful on the plate. This particular meal will easily feed a family of 4-5 for under $20.00. You could easily add the light Summer Fruit Shortcake recipe to round out a nice, light summer meal.

In addition to recipes there are also some fun seasonal craft videos, ideas on how to start a cookie exchange and other mom friendly topics. You Can See More Life Made Easy Videos Here

Vado HD Pocket Video Camera Review

I was beyond excited when I was asked if I would review the new Creative Vado HD Pocket Video Camera. I have been wanting a pocket video camera for a while. I wanted one so that I could Vlog without having to borrow a camera and for personal videos. The Vado HD is so small and cute. It is only 3.9″x 2.2″x 0.6″ in size and weighs 100 grams! It has a 2″ diagonal screen, 2x digital zoom and records up to 2 hours in HD. It connects to your PC with a built in flexi USB connector; it also charges through the USB or an optional wall charger.

You don’t need any additional software for your computer. The software is built in to the camera. You edit and save the video to your computer and you can upload it to the web via Youtube, Photobucket or Box.net so that you can share the video with friends and family. I don’t know anything about video editing-that is my son’s department, but I was able to edit this video and upload it without any trouble.

I took this video at this afternoon’s Works Of Wonder rehearsal. WOW is our homeschool musical theatre class. The sound is magnificent for such a small built in microphone. The colors are crisp and clear and the video is smooth. The camera is very easy to use-it has 1 button that controls recording with the zoom in and out on the top and bottom of the button. I love the size of the camera. It fits in my Vera Bradley media case and I pop it into my purse and carry it with me all the time. I will never miss an important video again. The Vado HD retails for $229.99 and you can order it from the Creative website. They also have a standard, non-HD model that comes in pink or silver and retails for $99.99 but right now the pink is on sale for $30 off! That’s right you can get it for only $69.99.
