My kids literally grew up on VeggieTales, the first one was released the year Aaron was born. Even though my kids are no longer in the Veggie Tales demographic, I still share about them here on the blog because I feel every family needs Bob and Larry in their life. Here we are 22 years later and no other Christian, animated kids programming comes close to what Big Idea Studios does with VeggieTales.

About VeggieTales Noah’s Ark

In NOAH’S ARK, Shem (played by Wayne Brady) and Sadie (played by Jaci Velasquez) return home from their honeymoon to find that Noah (played by Pa Grape) has begun, at God’s direction, to work on a massive ark, which his wife Naamah (played by Madame Blueberry) and sons Ham (played by Larry) and Japheth (played by Bob) are helping construct before the start of 40 days and 40 nights of rain.

But Shem doesn’t understand Noah’s unshakable faith in God, particularly when animals start arriving two-by-two – while the rain is nowhere to be seen. When the deluge does come, Shem begins to understand Noah’s determination to preserve humanity’s future … and the importance of trusting in God.

“Saying ‘yes’ to VeggieTales was a no-brainer – my daughter’s a fan and I love the music and messages,” says Brady, who performs seven original songs in NOAH’S ARK. “The best part is, Bob and Larry are down to earth and they never let the ‘I’m a global Veggie superstar’ thing go to their heads.”

Adds Velasquez: “Every parent searches for entertainment that’s both wholesome and imparts valuable life lessons, and with Noah’s Ark, VeggieTales serves up a delicious dish on both counts. The story, the music and the visuals are perfect for the entire family.”

NOAH’S ARK also features a brand-new “Silly Songs With Larry” segment, in which Larry dons a safari outfit as he goes on a quest for a gigantic, golden egg.

Mom Maven’s Thoughts

Hubby and I enjoyed the episode. We liked that we got to see what may have been Shem’s perspective and how our plans are not always God’s plans. In the end we know God’s plans are best for us.

Noah’s Ark is more of a musical than most VeggieTales movies which gives it a different feel. We loved that the ark looked like an orange slice and that many of our favorite VeggieTales characters are part of the story.

We are huge Wayne Brady fans so we were excited for this movie. Unfortunately, one thing we love about Wayne is his sultry voice. For the character of Shem he used a higher voice. My husband even asked. “Is that supposed to be Wayne?”

Overall, VeggieTales Noah’s Ark is a fun re-telling of the Biblical story of obedience-especially when it doesn’t make any sense!

We have been a Veggie Tales family since the beginning. Veggie Tales and my oldest son, Aaron were born the same year, 1993. We’ve never met a Veggie Tales story that we didn’t like and “Celery Night Fever” is no exception. You know Veggie Tales is a family affair when hubby walked into the house while I was in the middle of watching the movie and wanted to know if it was just starting so he could join me. I told him I was almost done but we could watch it together later.

About Celery Night Fever

In this VeggieTales special, “Celery Night Fever”, a determined young girl sets out to save the city park from being turned into a parking lot by getting her grandfather (Larry the Cucumber) to stage a reunion concert with the disco band he headlined forty years ago. The problem? None of those guys are talking to each other, all of them holding grudges for how the band fell apart all those years ago… It’s theme is forgiveness.

Mom Maven’s Thoughts

I was born in the 60’s and raised in the 70’s so I totally enjoyed the funky music in “Celery Night Fever”. As always, our favorite veggies do a great job of teaching us a moral tale in a thoughtful, fun and entertaining way. The theme of forgiveness is one we all need to be reminded about. I really liked the fact that not only do Laura and Junior need to learn to forgive, so do the members of The Groovy Brothers and even the antagonist Bruce Onion, learned to forgive.

Actor Terry Crews joins the veggie family lending his voice to the character of Bruce Onion and his name to one of Bruce’s minions, Terry Turnip. In the bonus feature “I am Bruce Onion”, Terry shares his love for Veggie Tales and his excitement at being a part of the franchise.

The new Silly Song with Larry, “Perfect Puppy” is adorable as always and gives an implied message about pet adoption at the same time.

Up next for Bob and Larry is the October 14th release of “Beauty and the Beet” starring Kellie Pickler, I can’t wait to check that out! In November, comes a brand new Netflix original TV series, “Veggie Tales in the House”-which marks the first time the adventures of our Veggie friends take place outside the kitchen! I am so excited that the Veggies are coming to Netflix, this is a great way to share Sunday morning values with Saturday morning fun.

We have been a veggie Tales from the beginning. Both Aaron and Veggie Tales were born in 1993 so he has been a Veggie Tales kids since birth. We had all of the videos on VHS and the songs on CDs. We can sing a Silly Song at the drop of a hat and have a funny story about the Hairbrush song that I won’t share right now. Veggie Tales are a part of life around here and even though my kids are grown, they all got excited when I opened the new Veggie Tales DVD “The Little House That Stood”. Why? Veggie Tales means family fun, great animation, good music, great comedy for kids and adults alike and best of all, Biblical values.

The kids weren’t home to watch “The Little House That Stood” with my husband and I the other night, and that didn’t matter. We watched our old friends Bob the Tomato, Larry the Cucumber, Junior Asparagus and the rest of the gang mash-up the story of the Three Little Pigs with the Parable of the Wise and Foolish Builders. We both laughed out loud at times, which scared the puppy! This DVD also includes a new Silly Song with Larry and “The Good Egg of Gooseville” aka Humpty Dumpty!

This DVD, along with all of the other Veggie Tales stories are fun teaching tools for all families. The core themes of this DVD are “Start with a firm foundation” and “Be a good neighbor”. Both lessons even we adults need to remember. Veggie Tales has even created a discussion guide to help families extend the lessons learned in these stories.

This DVD would make a great Easter or birthday gift or even just an “I love you” gift for the child in your life. “The Little House That Stood” hits shelves at Walmart today, March 5, 2013 or you can order it online at VeggieTales.com. One lucky reader of The Mom Maven will win their very own copy!

We have been a Veggie Tales family since the beginning. My oldest son was born in 1993 the same year Veggie Tales began. I think we owned every VHS, book and CD that Veggie Tales published from 1993-2006! The latest Veggie Tales title is VeggieTales: Robin Good and His Not-So-Merry Men. Even though my boys are grown, they both volunteer in children’s ministry so my 16yo and I sat down to watch Bob & Larry’s newest adventures.

VeggieTales: Robin Good and His Not-So-Merry Men is a fun parody that features plenty of high-energy, family-friendly music, including a new Silly Song with a theme that was selected through a recent online fan contest, “Bubble Rap” by Boyz in the Sink. . The episode also includes the animated short, “Lenny & the Lost Birthday,” which also helps teach lessons about handling hurt and forgiveness.

“Lenny & the Lost Birthday” is a cute story with an unexpected twist. Lenny, played by Junior Asparagus thinks everyone, even his mom, forgot his birthday. He is hurt and sad for a whole day and then he finds out no one forgot and he needs to forgive those he was angry with. The “Bubble Wrap” was disappointing to us. We have loved the music of Boyz in the Sink and we were looking forward to the new song but it didn’t live up to our expectations and was rather blah.

In “Robin Good and His Not-So-Merry Men” their mission is to help people by fundraising from the rich and giving to the poor! But when a greedy Prince starts stealing the townspeople’s hams, donations are down and Robin’s friends take off and decide to give robbing from the rich a try. Feeling rejected, Robin thinks things can’t get any worse, until he finds out that the ham-hoarding Prince has also captured his friends. Can Robin overcome his own hurt, rescue his friends and restore the townspeople’s hope?
Over all we enjoyed the DVD and it would make a great Easter gift for the little ones in your life.
