This is the third devotional DVD in her True Beauty Series. I have already reviewed Be Still and Deny Yourself. Each of these messages have touched me with their strength and their simplicity. In Not of This World-Lisa focuses on how the love we have for this world, which is not our home, and the things of this world, which give us temporary satisfaction-put are focus away from God and the love He has for us. We are pilgrims, aliens we are to be in this world but not of it. Often this is easy to say but hard to execute.

James 4:4 says, “You adulterous people,don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.” I don’t want to be an enemy of God…do you? We are human and we all struggle but that fact does not give us permission to love this world more than we love God.

Lisa shares part of her story and shares how we need to re-focus on God and what He has called us to be and do in this world. Included with this DVD is a personal reflection guide to help you spend even more time reflecting on this important part of our Christian walk. Truly living out God’s Word is simple, but it isn’t easy. In Luke 14:27 Jesus says, “And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.” (NIV). This passage is meat and it is a tough piece to chew and swallow. This passage is also the focus of the second film of Lisa Chan’s new series, True Beauty: Finding Your Identity in Jesus (David C Cook/Flannel, March 2013), where Lisa Chan–co-founder of the mega-church Cornerstone Community Church in Simi Valley—presents another option for women: Deny Yourself. In this impactful teaching, she demonstrates a way of life that is full of contentedness and joy.

We live in a “me first” society where most people don’t put other people before themselves, let alone God. In this passage we are being called to put down our plans, our agenda and seek God’s plans and walk them out-no matter how hard. For the last 2 months I’ve been honored to do ministry with a group of young adults who have put their lives, education and personal relationships aside to follow after the calling God has on their lives. It is a breath of fresh air you work with 18-28 year olds who understand and are living out Luke 14:27 on a daily basis. I am striving to be more like the kids I am ministering with and Lisa Chan’s DVD couldn’t have arrived at my home at a better time.

In the past 5 days, with the events of this past weekend’s accident and its aftermath fresh on my mind and in my heart, I have spent a lot of time where I belong, at the feet of Jesus. That is the best place to be, even though most of us don’t camp out there nearly as often as we should.

Last week I had the opportunity to preview a new video, “Be Still” by Lisa Chan (wife of Francis Chan). This week, in the busyness of life, the message of the film has come to me several times…Be Still.

Lisa Chan believes that in our quest to do it all, women are missing God. In the first film of her new series, True Beauty: Finding Your Identity in Jesus (David C Cook/Flannel, September 2012), Chan focuses on what it means to Be Still. Be Still addresses the issues that confront women when they forget to spend time with Jesus—something that, like most women, Chan struggled with herself.

As a mother of five children, co-founder of Cornerstone Community Church in Simi Valley, California, and wife of best-selling author and pastor Francis Chan, Lisa knows firsthand what it means to be overwhelmed, overcommitted, and out of time. It was an unplanned, extended time alone with God that fueled her desire to encourage every woman to see the beauty of coming before the Lord in stillness. She has seen firsthand that women in the church are suffering from depression, anxiety, and stress at alarming rates—and recognizes that women need to make the choice to find hope and healing and truth from God’s presence and through His Word.

Be Still, which weaves Lisa’s teaching with the story of Susan, an amazing woman who found that being still with God was what she needed in order to overcome her struggle with a broken marriage, is intended to challenge women who are struggling and help them to find power and strength in just being quiet and listening.
