No batteries required, just kid power!

Mom Maven’s Thoughts

Stomp rockets are a classic outdoor toy, my kids had some when they were young. The new X6 Zoom Rocket by Zing takes the classic stomp rocket and adds 2 new twists. First the auto-rotation feature allows for more continuous play before you have to reload. Second the base has a tilt feature which allows for a change in trajectory. Matthew, Bob and Ron could have played with this toy for hours, and probably would have if it hadn’t started raining out! Due to all the trees in our yard we had to play in the street but don’t worry, there were 4 adults supervising one 7yo at all times. The X6 Zoom Rocket was easy to set up and play with. The rockets have soft foam tips and they do not hurt when they come back down and hit you.
It is easy to see why Time to Play Magazine would name this toy to the Summer Playlist of Hot Toys. There are hours of kid powered fun with the X6 Zoom Rocket. The X6 Zoom Rocket is available at Target, Walmart and on Amazon (see link above).

The Atomic Shield Popper is a very fun toy but you MUST buy at least 2! Why they sell these only as single items I do not understand. You need 2 Atomic Shield Poppers to play with this toy.

Mom Maven’s Thoughts

First of all, as stated above, getting one of these toys is virtually useless. Matthew was able to shoot the balls at us and we ended up throwing them back at him, which was kind of lame. I could see two kids playing with this toy for hours, provided you have two units. The Atomic Shield Popper is a fun toy that encourages fun ball battles. There are warnings on the package about not aiming at people’s head but we all know it will happen. I am happy to report that the balls are spongy and do not hurt when you get hit by them. This toy is available on Amazon (see link above).

Aerobie Sprint Flying Disc Review and Giveaway

Summer is here and we are always looking for inexpensive fun things to do outside. One toy we have had a lot of fun with is the Aerobie Sprint 10″ Flying Disc. The Aerobie Sprint, which is made in America, has a patented high performance design that allows it to fly twice as far as conventional discs. Since we received ours it has been the focus of hours of play. The boys have even used it to play Ultimate with their friends.

Here is a video of the first time we played with the Aerobie Sprint…it could be subtitled…3 boys who can’t catch The stars of the video are my sons, Aaron & Jordan and our friend Chris.

Outdoor Play with the Big Kids

Summer is fast approaching. Moms all over are pushing their kids outside to play. The older my kids get the harder it is to get them to play outside. Friday night May 1st at 9pm EDT I will be taking part in a Twitter site warming party for TimeToPlayMag.com. The topic of the evening is outdoor play. Jim Silver (@JimSilver) and Chris Byrne (@thetoyguy) both from TimeToPlayMag.com will be guiding us through the maze of outdoor toys on the market today. Today we got to play with the Banzai Skimboard Surfer. Ok, I watched while my son Aaron and his friends, Kenny and Kyle played. The Banzai Skimboard Surfer is for ages 8 and up, Aaron & Kenny are 16 and Kyle is 13. Check out our video.

It took us about 30 minutes to set up the Banzai Skimboard Surfer. You need to find a flat grassy area to use this on. We actually went to a play yard at our church. We thought the area was flat but once we got all set up we realized there were actually 2 raised areas that made it a little difficult. All 3 boys had a lot of fun. They played for over an hour, and would have played longer if it wasn’t 5pm. The boys all agreed they will have a lot of fun using this over the summer. Their skill increased as the time went along and I’m sure with more practice they will get even better. We think we have enough flat grassy area in our front yard that we can try it at home next time.
