Summer is just about over and fall activity schedules are ramping up. For many of us that means we will be a lot busier than we were during the summer but, we still want to make sure we have some pockets of fun with our kids. In their book, 101 Offline Activities You Can Do With Your Child, Steve and Ruth Bennett offer fun activities you can do with your kids in the car, at home, or even waiting in line at the grocery store. There are games suitable for kids of all ages and most of them require only your time or a few items you probably already own.

While going through the book I found a few family favorites like #35 Humdinger #42 Log Those Plates, #47 Make-before-You-Go Mileage Bags. I also found some that I’ll be adding to my “mom” repertoire #15 Common Threads, #28 Great Wiper Ensemble and #94 What Did You Say?

If my kids were still young I would play #34 How Long Before…? Here is how you play;
Most of the suspense in the kitchen centers around the age-old question “When’s Dinner?” Here’s a neat way to inject a little anticipation into cooking time, good for one child or a group of hungry kitchen kids.

To play, your child picks a kitchen object (the spatuala, the slotted spoon, or the small sauce pan for example). Then, he or she tracks how much time passes before you use it. Or, if your kitchen has tile floors, your child can choose a particular tile and then see how long it is before you step on it.

If more than one child is playing, each one chooses an object. The winner can either be the person who correctly picks the first or last object actually used.

With this activity, your cooking will get more attention than you ever imagined possible. And your kids will be glued to the edge of their seats!

You can purchase your copy of 101 Offline Activities You Can Do With Your Child by clicking the link or you can enter to win a copy of the book right here!
