I know I’m writing this post while Walt Disney World is closed. I believe one of the best ways to get through all this craziness going on in the world is to look toward the future and to have plans made to look forward to. We have been discussing our annual fall cruise today and just looking at cruises has made me so happy. So, why not plan your next Disney trip now and include an some Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party tickets as well? Tickets have been on sale since February but thanks to the shutdown there are still plenty of tickets available.

Have you ever been to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party before? I love it, and I’m not a big Halloween fan. You can wear costumes if you choose, yes even adults! Here are the Halloween Party Costume Guidelines from Disney:

General Costume Guidelines

• Disney reserves the right to deny admission to or remove any person wearing attire that is considered inappropriate or could detract from the experience of other Guests.
• All Guests may dress as their favorite character, but may not pose for pictures or sign autographs for other Guests.
• Costumes must be family-friendly and may not be obstructive, offensive, objectionable or violent.
• Costumes may not contain any weapons that resemble or could easily be mistaken for an actual weapon.
• Costumes may not contain sharp objects, pointed objects or materials that may accidentally strike another Guest.
• Guests who do not adhere to these guidelines may be refused entry into, and/or removed from, the park unless his or her costume can be modified to meet the above standards.

For Guests Age 13 and Under

• Costumes and some masks may be worn, as long as the mask does not cover the entire face and eyes are visible.

For Guests Age 14 and Older

• Layered costumes or costume props that surround the entire body are strongly discouraged and may be subject to additional security screening.
• Costumes may not reach or drag on the ground. (e.g., full-length Princess dresses)
• Capes may be worn if the length does not go below the waist.
• Themed T-shirts, blouses, sweatshirts and hats are acceptable.
• Acceptable accessories include: transparent wings, plastic light sabers, toy swords and tutus. Headwear may be worn as long as it does not cover the face.
• Masks of any kind may not be worn.

All rules and regulations are subject to change without notice.

Trick or Treating

When you arrive at the party each guest receives a treat bag, teal colored bags are available for those with food allergies and sensitivities. Throughout the park there are treat trails where cast members hand out generous amounts delicious candy to adults and children.

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Entertainment

There are several special party entertainment options. You can see you favorite characters in their Halloween costumes. You can even have your picture taken with some rarely seen characters during the party. You can enjoy the amazing Boo! to You! Halloween Parade. Make sure you find your spot early because you don’t want to miss the headless horseman! There is also the Hocus Pocus Villain Spectacular stage show and Disney’s Not So Spooky Spectacular fireworks and laser light show.

For many, a favorite part of the party is trying the special treat options available for purchase. Some are only available at special dining (Cruella’s Halloween Hide A Way) or at the two dessert parties, so talk with your Disney travel agent about what the best plan is for your visit.

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is my favorite hard ticketed event at Walt Disney World. The Boo to You Parade is the best parade ever! It has been announced that Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade, “Holiday Wishes,” “A Frozen Holiday Wish” and Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration stage show will all be returning to the party. In “Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular,” the mischievous Sanderson Sisters from Disney’s “Hocus Pocus” return to the mortal world for one night during the Halloween season. With only a few hours to run amuck, the three sisters decide to use their magic to throw the best, evil Halloween party this side of the graveyard!

With the help of the Disney villains, Winifred, Mary and Sarah gather together sinister shadows, nefarious nightmares and the power of their frightful friends to conjure the ultimate Hocus Pocus Party Potion and cast a spell on everyone in the Magic Kingdom Park. “Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular” features appearances by Dr. Facilier, Oogie Boogie, Maleficent and other great Disney villains, along with dancers, projections and special effects that combine to make this new show a not-to-be-missed Halloween treat.

“Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular” will be presented exclusively during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, held select nights at Magic Kingdom Park from September 15 – November 1, 2015.

We have been attending Night of Joy since the 80’s! I love this event every year. This year Night of oy will be held at the Magic kingdom on September 11 & 12. Single-day ticket prices for Disney’s Night of Joy are $65 (plus tax) in advance and $80 (plus tax) on the day of the event (if available). On 26 select nights from September 1 through Halloween night October 31, the Magic Kingdom will host this spooktacular after-hours party from 7 p.m. – midnight.

Disney villains take center stage in 2014 with “Villains Mix & Mingle – Live on Stage” castle show; and Club Villain, an all-new nightly character dance party experience takes over the Diamond Horseshoe Saloon in Frontierland. Mischievous villains will be available for guests to meet all night long in locations throughout the park

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween party features Disney characters donning their favorite Halloween costumes, while partygoers navigate treat trails and candy galore throughout the Magic Kingdom themed out for happy haunts. Partygoers can show their Disney Side and dress up in favorite costumes and explore classic Magic Kingdom attractions as well as the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.

Eerie entertainment features the twice-nightly “Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade” led by the infamous Headless Horseman, at 8:15 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. and “HalloWishes,” a green and orange fireworks spectacle complete with Disney villains, caps the evening festivities at 9:30 p.m.

Party dates for 2014 are: September 1, 9, 12, 14, 16, 19, 21, 23, 26 & 28 and October 2, 3, 5, 9, 10, 13, 16, 17, 19, 21, 23, 24, 26, 27, 30 & 31. This will be our 5th year attending the party. I’m not sure if we will be in costume this year or not, last year it was waaaay too hot to wear a costume, so we wore fall themed Disney t-shirts. If this is your first time heading to the party DO NOT MISS the Boo to You Parade and the HalloWishes fireworks. Be prepared to collect a lot of candy and ride your favorite Magic Kingdom attractions.

We entered the park at about 5:30pm and met up with another friend, Jessica, who spent about 3 hours hanging with us that night! After some pictures on Main Street USA we headed to Tomorrowland to ride some rides before the party officially started at 7:00pm. We rode Buzz twice, took pictures with Buzz, rode the PeopleMover and Bob & Kim rode Space Mountain while Ron & Matthew rode the Tomorrowland Speedway. The we headed to Rockettower Plaza for the Monstrous Scream-O-Ween Ball where we got to dance with Mike, Sulley, George Sanderson and Boo!

After the ball, it was time to start trick-or-treating! There are 9 trick-or-treat locations throughout the park which all give out generous amounts of premium candy. Ron and I weighed our candy bags when we got home and we each had 2.25 lbs of candy!

After a ride on Under the Sea-Journey of the Little Mermaid we were treated to a media only preview of Princess Fairytale Hall…I will tell you all about that experience next week!

Now it is time to head towards the front of the park and find our spot for all of the exciting night time entertainment. we were blessed to find a spot near the castle on the left side to watch Celebrate the Magic and Happy HalloWishes. I have a full video of Happy HalloWishes on my YouTube channel if you would like to see the entire fireworks presentation. After the fireworks we moved to our spot in front of the castle for the Boo to You Parade. While we were waiting we listened to the Disney Villians’ Dance Mix and Mingle show. The Boo to You Parade is my favorite Disney parade of the year because of the Headless Horseman, Pirate Flag Corps and the Grave Diggers. I made a montage vidoe of the night’s highlights. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is one of our favorite Disney events of the year and as always…we had an awesome time!

About Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

Halloween’s happiest haunts will reappear for 23 “spook-tacular” nights of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom.

From Sept. 10 through Nov. 1, the after-hours special ticket event will immerse guests in the Halloween spirit. The bewitching “Happy HalloWishes” fireworks spectacular will illuminate the sky in bursts of orange and green fireworks.  In “Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade” the Headless Horseman parades a gang of ghostly characters down Main Street, U.S.A. for a haunted, but happy, Halloween season.

New features this year include the debut of Jack Skellington and Sally (from Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas”), along with “Monsters, Inc.” scarers Mike and Sulley hosting their own Monstrous Scream-O-Ween Ball.

The night of ever so slightly frightful fun begins at 7 p.m. and runs until midnight, with guests encouraged to don their favorite Halloween costumes and partake in trick-or-treating around the Magic Kingdom theme park.

I went as Ursula, unfortunately my tentacles were a bit too short but…oh well. Ron was Dr Doofenschmirtz, Jordan was Skipper Dan and Summer was Alice. We spent most of the evening with our friend Jessica Clawson and the first part of the evening we hung out with Robin & Ashley Reeve and family. We rode lots of rides, some twice, and we collected a lot of candy! One of the most exciting things for this family of Disney geeks was seeing the new castle wall in Fantasyland. The wall looks beautiful all lit up at night. I can’t wait to see it completed!

At about 9:15pm we headed towards the Plaza Restaurant to find a place to watch Happy Hallowishes! A Grim Grinning Ghost Spooktacular in the Sky! After the fireworks we let the crowd clear out and we headed to Main Street to find our place for the Boo to You! parade. As always, the Headless Horseman rides the parade route prior to the parade, This is always a thrilling part of the party. This year, to fill the gap between the Headless Horseman and the parade actually arriving on Main Street, Disney added the Not-So-Scary Street Jam, a mini dance party on Main Street led by the “Creepa Crew”. I thought this would be something that started near the hub and worked its way to Town Square, but I was wrong. The Street Jam took place in front of the Main Street Cinema. I was kind of bummed to miss this because the Disney Parks Blog had shared the video of the dance we should learn before arriving so we could participate in the Street Jam, and we had actually learned it! here it is so you can be prepared.

Finally, it was parade time. There were a few minor changes in this year’s parade but nothing major. As usual the top two crowd favorites were the grave diggers and the hitchhiking ghosts with the new pirate flag corps coming in third. This is my 2nd favorite Walt Disney World parade of all times, second only to the Main Street Electrical Parade. If you have never seen the Boo to You! parade you are missing a top-notch parade.

There is still plenty of time for you to attend Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. The party is a hard ticket event which runs from 7 p.m.-midnight. Tickets range from $50.95 to $69.95, depending on the night. Get your tickets at Disneyworld.com/Halloween and choose from these dates:
