I think my least favorite chore is folding clothes. In all honesty, we mostly live out of the clean clothes baskets in the laundry room. Last week I actually folded clothes for the first time in probably 2-3 months. I still have to fold all the towels, that is supposed to be Jordan’s chore but it hasn’t been done since the last time his fiance was here and they did it together. Since his wedding is in 54 days and he should be closing on his house in the next few weeks, I guess folding towels is my chore now too

One part of folding clothes that drives me crazy is matching Ron’s socks. He lives in white athletics socks except on Sunday mornings when he wears dress shoes to church. Anyway, he buys a new package of socks a few times a year and he buys what’s on sale so he switches brands regularly. Matching all the different white socks with different color thread at the toe or a grey heal drives me insane. When I was asked to review the SockSync Sock Sorter I thought it was a bit silly, but I agreed to give it a try.

Mom Maven’s Thoughts

I used the SockSync to match and fold all of our socks last week and I have to admit, it has merit. I don’t personally need this item, since there are going to be only 2 of us at home in just a few weeks, but this would be perfect for a mom who is matching socks for the whole family. 5 Cents Per Load Laundry Soap

I hate paying a lot of money for things I could make myself. When I came back home full time in January, I really started taking inventory of how much I was paying for every little thing. Depending on the shopping trip and coupons I was spending 10-30¢ per load for laundry detergent! That seemed like a lot of money to me, especially when I had friends posting on Facebook and Pinterest about how they make their own for pennies a load. About a month ago I decided it was time to try this for myself. I had pinned a few “recipes” to my household stuff Pinterest board so I did my research, chose a recipe from Yellowbrickhome and headed to the store.

How to Make 5¢ Per Load Laundry Detergent

There are just 3 ingredients Borax ($3.97), Fels Naptha Soap ($0.97) and Super Washing Soda ($3.24). I got all of my ingredients on the laundry aisle at Walmart. My initial investment was a total of $6.18.

This step can be tedious, I suggest doing it in front of the television Using a cheese grater, grate the entire bar of Fels Naptha soap. I have read that you can do this quicker with a food processor, if you have one, I don’t.

Add one cup of Borax and one cup of Super Washing Soda to the grated Fels Naptha Soap and mix well. Store the 5 Cents per load laundry soap in an air tight container with a 1 Tablespoon measuring spoon.

How to Use 5 Cents Per Load Laundry Soap

Sprinkle 1 TBS of laundry soap in the washing machine (Do Not put it in the soap dispenser-even in HE washers).
Turn on the water, hot, warm or cold-doesn’t matter.
Add soiled clothing.
Wash and Dry as usual.

The Mom Maven’s Thoughts

I LOVE it! I got 40 loads of laundry out of one container of this laundry soap. I figured out that the Borax was 42¢ per cup, and the Super Washing Soda was 47¢ per cup so my total cost was $1.86 for 40 load of laundry or $0.0465 cents per load! My laundry has been very clean and it smells fresh too.

I am all about the entire family pitching in with chores. My kids have had chores since age 2 and they still have chores at ages 18, 19 and 20. This app would have been wonderful, if we all had iPhones, when my kids were a bit younger and still doing the laundry. The built in incentive program is a great motivator. I’ve spent some time looking over the app and I really like the Cycle Guides that step you through the best way to do a specific load of wash…Did you know you should wash jeans inside out but dry them inside in? I didn’t. The Stain Guide is also very useful to help you know the best ways to remove typical types of stains.
