We have a good-sized yard but some crappy grass. The northern side of our yard has more clover than it does grass. Lawn maintenance in Florida is tough work. It isn’t easy to grow grass in a yard that is more sand than dirt. From March through November we often have to mow the lawn twice a week to keep it manageable. Now that fall is on its way, our lawn care routine changes but we don’t get time off like some climates do.

Fall Tips for Your Florida Lawn from TruGreen

Keep watering-Even in the cooler months your lawn needs 1″ of water a week. Our sandy soil doesn’t hold water well so regular watering is still very important. Make sure you know your local watering regulations and follow them as you work to maintain your lawn.

Weed control-Weeds don’t take a break in Florida so neither can you. Dollar Weed and Oxalis are common in Florida and need to be eradicated quickly.

Keep your mower handy-Grass growth slows significantly, but it doesn’t stop. You will probably still need to mow every 2-3 weeks throughout the fall and winter months.

Maintain your mower-This is a great time of year to sharpen the mower blades and get a tune-up, since you won’t be using it nearly as often.

Help your lawn recuperate-This is a great time to do some core aerating and over seeding to help it stay healthy and strong.

Contact your local pest and rodent control services-This is the best time to hire professional pest control services that can provide Sustainable Pest Systems. Pests spread disease and cause destruction, and the need for pest control services is inevitable.

Thankfully during the cooler months bugs and pests are less common as they tend to rest in the cooler weather. For more tips on caring for your lawn visit the TruGreen website.
