I can’t believe it was 3 years ago when I reviewed The Original Christmas Classics DVD Box Set for you. I shared my love for all of the Rankin/Bass Christmas specials I grew up with as a kid and how excited I was to own 4 of them now as an adult. Now I get to give this awesome set of DVDs to one of you!

Holiday Gift Guide: Christmas Classics

I’ll admit it…I’m a sap when it comes to classic Christmas television specials and movies. My Christmas isn’t complete without watching Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and all of the other Christmas classics. Growing up in the 70’s watching these Christmas specials was a family event that I have continued with my boys. The other night we turned off all of our computers and sat together in the living room to watch Rudolph…and sing along with “Why am I Such a Misfit”. This year your family can own The Original Christmas Classics (Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer / Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town / Frosty the Snowman / Frosty Returns) on Blu-Ray!

I will say if you already own these on DVD then I don’t think buying the Blu-Ray version is worth it. Yes, Blu-Ray is updated technology but the quality difference between the two are minimal. Also, I usually purchase Blu-Rays for their bonus features and there are none in this collection. In my opinion this collection is missing my favorite Rankin-Bass Christmas Special A Year without a Santa Claus.

That being said, if you don’t own these Christmas classics on DVD you should own them on Blu-Ray so that you can continue to share the magic with your children.
