The classic gamer in me was pleasantly surprised when I saw the Wreck-It Ralph trailer yesterday. I couldn’t wait to share it with you!

Walt Disney Animation Studios and Emmy®-winning director Rich Moore (TV’s “The Simpsons,” “Futurama”) take moviegoers on a hilarious, arcade-game-hopping journey in “Wreck-It Ralph.” Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly, “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby,” “Step Brothers”) is tired of being overshadowed by Fix-It Felix (voice of Jack McBrayer, “30 Rock”), the “good guy” star of their game who always gets to save the day. But after decades doing the same thing and seeing all the glory go to Felix, Ralph decides he’s tired of playing the role of a bad guy. He takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a game-hopping journey across the arcade through every generation of video games to prove he’s got what it takes to be a hero.

On his quest, he meets the tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Jane Lynch, TV’s “Glee”) from the first-person action game Hero’s Duty. But it’s the feisty misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman, “The Sarah Silverman Program”) from the candy-coated cart racing game, Sugar Rush, whose world is threatened when Ralph accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens the entire arcade. Will Ralph realize his dream and save the day before it’s too late?

From the pages of Mary O’Hara’s popular novel My Friend Flicka, the year’s most inspiring coming of age story, Flicka: Country Pride galloped on to Blu-ray and DVD May 1 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Directed by Michael Damian (Flicka 2, Marley & Me: The Puppy Years), Flicka: Country Pride stars country music superstar Clint Black (Flicka 2), Lisa Hartman Black (“Knots Landing”) and Kacey Rohl (“The Killing”) in a heartwarming adventure for the entire family.

When Toby (Black) takes on a job at a stable with Flicka in tow, the owner’s teenage daughter Kelly (Rohl), quickly bonds with the wild horse. A budding equestrian rider, she hopes to break Flicka for an upcoming competition, despite her mother’s (Hartman Black) disapproval. With the competition approaching, a rival trainer stealing business, and a growing fear they may be forced to sell the stable, Toby steps in to turn things around for Kelly and her mother.

Grammy Award® Winner Clint Black is one of country music’s superstars with over 20 million albums sold worldwide. Having written over 100+ songs including 23 #1 songs Clint is an active philanthropist overseeing numerous charities.

Not only is the story filled with good family values, but according to Director Michael Damian, working behind the scenes was just as rewarding. Damian commented, “Directing Flicka: Country Pride was a wonderful experience for me! Clint Black and Lisa Hartman Black poured their hearts into the characters they played and brought genuine warmth and deep emotion to the film. My wife Janeen and I are blessed to have an incredible professional relationship, which is a rare and precious thing. So for us, it was wonderful to see a celebrity couple like Clint and Lisa working together with such love and respect. Their high regard for Christian values and dedication to their family is an inspiration. They are a true Hollywood success story.”

The Flicka: Country Pride Blu-ray and DVD has two behind-the-scenes featurettes on the making of the film and a never-before-seen music video. Available at 4,000 Walmart and Sam’s Club locations nationwide and in Canada.

Last Friday night Ron, Summer and I had family movie night and watched Flicka: Country Pride. This is the third movie in the Flicka series and we hadn’t seen the first two, but that didn’t matter at all. Though the story was rather predictable, the acting was good and we enjoyed the movie. We all felt it would be best for girls ages 8-12 and especially those that like horses. The underlying themes of loss, perseverance, and friendship all ring loud and clear in this G-rated family film.

I have 2 copies of the Flicka: Country Pride DVD to give away! The giveaway is open to US residents only and will end at 12:01am on 6-20-12. The winner will have 48 hours to claim their prize via email.

I don’t need a club to help me build my library.” I know some of you have though the exact same thing too.

In case you haven’t heard about the Disney Movie Club is is the official Disney-owned movie club. Currently, when you sign up you can choose 4 DVDs for $1.00 and free shipping and handling you can also choose a bonus title for $14.95 and an extra bonus title for $9.95, both with free shipping and gandling.. I tooled around the site and found several Disney movies I don’t currently own. My 4 introductory DVDs would be Dumbo, the original Tron, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Pete’s Dragon. I own the last 2 movies on VHS but my VCR died and I can’t watch my old movies any more! My bonus titles would be Disney’s A Christmas Carol and Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas.

After your introductory purchase you are obligated to purchase 5 regularly priced movies during the next 24 months (the 2 bonus DVDs available in your introductory offer count towards your required purchases so now you only need to purchase 3 full price DVDs in 24 months). So that is a pretty darn good deal! Thirteen times a year you will receive a mailer with the featured movie highlighted. You can just go to the website, or mail back the mailer-but who does that anymore, and order the featured movie, an alternate movie or nothing at all. It is that simple.

Being a member of the Disney Movie Club is a great way to keep family movie night fresh and fun. If you are looking for other family movie night tips just click that link for some fun ideas.

Are you a member of the Disney Movie Club? Leave me a comment and let me know what you think of it.

Disclosure: I am not a member of the club. I am being compensated for this blog post. All opinions are 100% mine.

The next installment of Family Movie Night is called “Game of Your Life” and is a great action & adventure movie, which airs on NBC Friday, December 2nd 8/7c.

Here’s the synopsis:

When industrious high school gamer Zach Taylor lands a prized scholarship to the prestigious Digital Institute of Game Design (DIGD), his future breaks wide open. The opportunity to study under gaming legend Marcus Bentton and alongside the country’s most creative minds will certainly propel him into a successful career as a video game designer. That is, if he can pass the infamous freshman project that eliminates more than half of the class within the first three months.

Paired with brilliant yet socially awkward teammates Phillip and Donald, the trio persuades Sara Ramirez – a determined and striking team leader with whom Zach has a history (and possibly a future) – to join their team. Working off-campus in the teched-out Lincoln Alley loft, the four set out to involve the entire campus in a quirky new social interactive game. But as the group becomes entrenched in the project, Zach learns that his father Billy, a widower, is facing growing financial woes at home. To help out, Zach accepts an opportunity to work directly with Marcus Bentton on a secretive side project that seems too good to be true. The effort requires nearly all of Zach’s time and energy, which he should be devoting to the project. Struggling to keep it together, Zach is torn between his responsibility to his team, his admiration for Bentton and a chance to help his father.

Everything comes to a breaking point when Zach’s team threatens to remove him from the group and the deceptive truth behind Bentton’s project comes to light. With the guidance of Professor Abbie Lambert, Zach must make a decision that not only affects his future, but the lives and livelihoods of the people around him as well. It’s a revealing story that recognizes the magnitude behind the choices we make and the importance loyalty plays in making good decisions.

You can view the trailer here.

I had the privilege of watching this movie yesterday and I was impressed. This Family Movie Night movie is geared more for tweens and teens and I can’t wait for my boys to see it. The themes of family, loyalty and integrity are not found in most movies geared to this age group and all of them are well handled in this movie. The four main characters Zack (Titus Makin Jr), Sara (Dana de la Garza), Phillip (Nathan Kress) and Donald (Adam Cagley) work well together as a great ensemble cast of gamers. You really feel for Zack and the decisions he has to make throughout the movie.

Mark your calendar or set your DVR for Friday, December 2nd 8/7c on NBC. “Game of Your Life” is a great way to kick of the holiday season with your family.

Last week I gave you a sneak peek into the latest Family Movie Night movie Who is Simon Miller? Today I want to give you a review, hopefully without spoiling it for you.

Here is the synopsis:

When unassuming geoligist Simon Miller mysteriously disappears one night, the Miller family is thrown into a desperate search to find him. Simon’s wife Meredith and their two kids, Sarah, 18 and Kevin, 15 frantically search Simon’s office for information. When they find a stash of passports, all with Simon’s picture but each with a different alias, they realize that their father has been keeping more than a few secrets. Who is Simon Miller? And what has he gotten himself – and his family – into? Not sure they can even trust the dad they thought they knew, the Millers embark on an international mission to get him back. It’s a heart-pounding adventure that tests the limits to which families will fight for each other.

I had the opportunity to view the movie last week and chat with the movie’s lead actress Robin Lively during the screening. It was a lot of fun as Robin would occasionally clue us in to what to look for in upcoming scenes. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and it was exactly the escape I needed at the end of a long, hard day. I can’t wait to watch it as a family on August 6th at 8/7c on NBC.

When I first saw the promo for the movie I wasn’t sure I was going to like it but I agreed to preview it and I’m glad I did. This movie has something for just about everyone, wholesome family values, action, adventure, a 15yo tech geek and an 18yo linguist. Since this is a spy movie there is some violence but compared to most TV shows it is very minor. There are some twists and turns that have you guessing who the good guys are for the first half of the movie too.

Here is a promo video to get you excited about the movie.

Make sure you set your DVR or mark you calendar for Family Movie Night Saturday, August 6th 8/7c on NBC.

I just had the opportunity to watch an advanced screening of Field of Vision, the new Family Movie Night move brought to you by Wal-Mart and Proctor & Gamble. Right now I want you to mark your calendar or set your DVR for this Saturday night, June 11th 8/7c on NBC. The latest installment of the Family Movie Night Movies is the best yet.

Though being billed as a movie that deals with bullying, Field of Vision, is not your typical after school special on bullying-far from it. It is a well written and well acted morality tale with bullying as one of its major themes. Also, just because the poster makes it look like this is a football movie and therefore a “guy” movie, again football and team dynamics are just some of the themes touched on in the movie.

My two favorite characters in the movie were Cory-the underdog played by Joe Adler and Lucy (Alyssa Jordan Shafer), whose faith and optimism help her to always see the positive. I don’t want to write a full review because I just want you to gather the family and watch this heartwarming movie. I will say that Faith Ford gives one of her best dramatic portrayals ever as mom and guidance counselor Jody McFarland.

Star quarterback, Tyler McFarland, learns that some of his teammates have been bullying a troubled new transfer student. Aware that sharing this information with the coach might get his friends kicked off the team and ultimately cost them the state championship, Tyler must choose what’s more important: winning or doing what’s right.

Last night my family and I had the privilege to attend a media screening of Secretariat at the Regal Theaters at Citrus Park Mall in Tampa. Unfortunately, due to ridiculous traffic on I-275 we were a few minutes late for the start of the movie (our 1 hour drive to 1 hour and 45 minutes!). We were able to find seats quickly and sit back and enjoy the film.

Secretariat is being billed as the “Feel good movie of the year” and “The next Blindside”. While I agree it is definitely a “feel good” movie, I wouldn’t quite rank it up there with” The Blindside”. The story is very inspiring and uplifting but I don’t think it moves you to action like “The Blindside” did. The storyline moves smoothly through the film and is well paced. The soundtrack is perfect and the cinematography is at times breathtaking. I am not a horse person, nor am I a big fan of animal films but Secretariat is a sports film…that stars a horse and its owner.

The horses that play Secretariat are beautiful, strong, majestic and graceful. Diane Lane plays Penny Chenery with a perfect mix of loving wife and mother as well as savvy business woman with a big heart and a strong desire to succeed. The character of Penny Chenery also struggles greatly with what we moms now call work-life balance. Unlike many other reviews I’ve read, I wasn’t as excited about John Malkovich’s portrayal of Lucien Lauren. Malkovich did a good job with the comedic relief but I didn’t feel the depth and heart of Lauren ring through.

Nelsan Ellis was endearing as Eddie Sweat, the groom and his depth and heart made up for some of what was missing in Malkovich’s character. I found the character of Ron Turcotte, Secretariat’s jockey, spunky and endearing and today as I was researching the actor who played that part, Otto Thorwarth, I found out he isn’t an actor at all! He is a professional jockey with over 1300 wins under his belt! No wonder he looked so comfortable on a horse!

The story of Secretariat is history, not just a feel good story. Parents, even if your kids don’t have a clue about the story of one of the world’s greatest athletes, they should see this movie. The themes of determination, family and risk taking are inspiring. The movie is rated PG for death, tense family situations, brief mild language. I feel this movie is appropriate for most children ages 8 and up.
