I am the director of the Girl’s Clubs at our church and I teach the Stars class which is 3rd-5th graders. During our study on Integrity we talked about the story of Noah. I searched high and low for a Noah themed craft and almost everything I found was geared to pre-schoolers. I finally found an edible craft on kaboose, tweaked it a bit and I thought I’d share it with you.

Ingredients (this is per child)

1 1/2 small tortillas

2 graham cracker squares

3 pretzel sticks

6 animal crackers in pairs

peanut butter **Allergy Warning** if you have kids with peanut allergies you can use cake frosting instead.

Accessories

paper plates

sharp knife (for leader)

plastic knives for children

Finding pairs of animal crackers

Preparation

Before starting the craft find the pairs of animal crackers, this was the hardest part of the craft and I had 2 teachers working on it while I did the rest of the craft with the girls.

Cut all of the tortilla shells in half, every child gets 3 halves.

Our arks in progress

Directions

Lay one tortilla on the bottom center of your plate.

Lay the other two tortillas on top of the first one, keeping the straight edge even, making the shape of a boat.

Break the graham cracker squares into rectangles.

Place two graham cracker pieces at the top of the two top tortillas, centered. Place a third graham cracker piece centered on top of the first two. Eat the fourth graham cracker piece.

Line up the two pretzel sticks in a triangular position on top as the roof.

Break the remaining pretzel sticks in half make one half a little longer than the other.

Place two broken pretzel pieces on top of the top graham cracker, the larger piece first, then the smaller piece on top. (inside the pretzel stick triangle you already made)

Position animal crackers in pairs around the tops of the tortillas.

When you have everything where you want it, use a plastic butter knife and peanut butter to glue everything together.

Edible Noah’s Ark Craft

Once the craft is finished you can save it for snack time or take it home.
The girls had a blast making the ark. I actually did it with 3 classes of girls in grades K-5 and they all followed directions well and enjoyed eating their creations.

I am directing this summers Vacation Bible School at our church. One of my many duties was to find craft projects that fit our theme. This year’s theme is “Aloha Attitude Check” so of course we are doing everything with a luau/beach theme. I love messy crafts but when we are talking about large groups and short class times, I was looking for fun, easy and not too messy crafts that would appeal to the children.

One of the crafts I ordered were adorable foam fish that you can decorate with jewels. If you have ever worked with “fun foam” you know that even foam glue doesn’t work very well but, Glue Dots do! I had been sent a sample package of Glue Dots from Twittermoms so I set out to use them to make my sample fish craft.

Here are the pieces of my craft project: In about 15 minutes I was able to complete my fish…which means it will be the perfect craft to fit in the 30 minute class time at VBS!

If you have never worked with Glue Dots…where have you been? I remember years ago when my friend Katie and I first discovered them at a scrapbooking expo (we called them snot dots cause they were sticky and hard to get off your fingers-hee hee). They were very handy in scrapbooking and now they are handy in all sorts of crafts. As Glue Dots have been perfected they have even come out with easier ways to dispense them so they don’t get stuck on your fingers.

Easter is only a few days away and savvy moms are already planning Easter outfits and Easter dinner. Now it’s time to plan some Easter fun for the kids, and the best place to turn is Disney’s FamilyFun magazine and website. Here are just a few ideas…

Crafts

Make a Sheep Egg using hard-boiled eggs, vibrant egg dye, a cute pipe cleaner stand, and some glued-on details (paper ears, pom-pom nose, and so on), this critter is an Easter favorite.

Try some Pop-Up Eggs! Make your Easter extra festive with this 3-D paper egg. The secret to its look is colorful, accordion-folded paper strips.
Bunny Bean Bags: Make your own bunny beanbag and get some use from the single socks left behind.

Easter Activities

The Great Egg Drop: Kids construct protective coverings around raw eggs before dropping onto a target below. The goal is to hit the bull’s eye without breaking the eggs – making a little bit of a mess and a lot of fun memories!

Less Sugary Easter Egg Hunts: Fill plastic eggs with puzzle pieces to make Easter egg hunts more fun and less sugary.

A Kid-Friendlier Way to Dye Eggs: Put the eggs in wire whisks, and dip away!

Check out these and the hundreds of other great Easter celebration ideas online or in Disney’s FamilyFun magazine.
