Worship Night in America – Praying for Our Country

Ever since the 9/11 attacks, it seems like the world has gone crazy. These last 8 years have been extra crazy. As a Christian I pray for my country and its leaders regularly, as does my church. I know that sometimes it feels like those prays fall on deaf ears, but they don’t. God hears and He cares. Our actions and attitudes effect how God chooses to move. Our sins, our choices, our decision to turn away from His best as individuals and as a country.

God spelled it out in 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV) “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” IF we will humble ourselves. IF we will pray. IF we will seek His face. IF we will turn from our wicked ways. THEN he will hear from heaven. THEN He will forgive our sins. THEN He will heal our land. WE are His children. WE have been called by His name. WE must repent and pray.

This must happen individually and corporately. This has to happen in the Church of Jesus Christ as a whole, across denominational lines. Chris Tomiln, often called “America’s Worship Leader”, has stepped to the plate to lead our country in Worship Night in America. Chris Tomlin has gathered some friends to help him, Louie Giglio, Max Lucado, Matt Redman, Phil Wickham, Kim Walker-Smith and more.

Across America in churches and theaters, Christians will join together on October 25, 2016 for a night of praise, worship and prayer for Worship Night in America. Tickets are available from ChrisTomlin.com. If there isn’t a venue close to you, you can ask for one to be added, that’s what I did. I’d rather not drive to Tampa on a week night, but I will if I have to. Please, share this post with your friends, neighbors, relatives and churches. Night of Joy 2016 Tickets on Sale Now

One of my favorite events at Walt Disney World is Night of Joy. Why? It combines tow of my favorite things, Christian music and Disney! I have been attending the event off and on since it began in 1983! For 30 of its 32 years, Night of Joy has been held at the Magic Kingdom. In 2008-2009 it moved to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. For 2016 it is moving again and so far the reaction is mixed. This fall, Night of Joy will be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World.

I’ve talked to several youth pastors, teens and young adults about the venue change and we’ve come up with a list of pros and cons with this change:

Pros:

More of a festival feel
Indoor and outdoor venues
Seating at venues
More affordable pricing

Cons:

No Magic Kingdom attractions
Less of an outreach event. Unsaved friends will come for a trip to Magic Kingdom but not to a Christian concert.
No Dole Whip
There is just something special about worshiping Jesus in front of the castle.

One youth pastor told me they won’t attend Night of Joy if it isn’t in a theme park. The kids like the mix of rides and concerts. Personally, I understand that a lot of people don’t like change and I too like attending in the theme park because you can catch a few rides with shorter than normal wait times! To help quench your need for rides Disney is offering ticket options that include admission to 1 theme park and Night of Joy at a discounted rate.

2016 Night of Joy Ticket Prices

A single-night, concert only ticket for Friday, Sept. 9 – $39 plus tax (in advance); $45 the day of the show (if available).
A single-night concert and one-day Disney theme park ticket (valid for one of the four Walt Disney World Resort theme parks) for Saturday, Sept. 10 – $99 plus tax (in advance); $114 plus tax the day of the show (if available).*
A two-night concert ticket (which includes Friday and Saturday nights’ concerts and one-day Disney theme park ticket (valid for one of the four Walt Disney World Resort theme parks) – $119 plus tax (in advance).*
Group tickets are also available for groups of 10 or more.

* The one-day Disney theme park ticket is only valid for Saturday, Sept 10.

Chris Tomlin Good, Good Father Flyaway Giveaway

If you know even a little bit about Christian music, you have heard of Chris Tomlin. He is often referred to as America’s worship leader. His current hit worship song is “Good, Good Father”, written by Pat Barrett. Check out this video of the story behind the song.

We all have a picture of who we think God is. When we get down to the foundation of what we believe, the truth is that God is exactly who He says He is – a good, good Father.

We introduced this song at our church last fall right after my father passed away. Since losing my dad, the concept of God as my heavenly Father has taken on a new meaning and importance in my life. My Abba Daddy is the only Father that I can turn to now that my earthly father isn’t here. This song tears me up every time we sing it!

In case you aren’t familiar with “Good, Good Father” or of you just love it, here is the new music video, featuring songwriter Pat Barrett.

I have listened to the album several times since I received it and it is all good! I told my worship leader he needed to download the album because we could do all of these songs and especially “My Victory” and “Remember” which are perfect for Easter. I can’t really pick a favorite song on this album, maybe “Simple Pursuit”? “My Victory” is also a favorite, the lyrics at the end of the chorus are so powerful, “The cross meant to kill is my victory.”

I had been waiting for Chris Tomlin’s Christmas CD “Adore-Christmas Songs of Worship” to arrive in my mailbox the end of last week, it didn’t. I’ve told you before that my love of Christmas music comes from my dad who owns thousands of Christmas albums and CDs. On Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at 5:10am my daddy, Walt Foster, went home to be with Jesus. When he entered the hospital on November 8th we didn’t dream that he would never come home with us again. While I’ll write more about my dad in a future post, I want you to know that this daddy’s girl came home Tuesday night after helping to plan the Memorial Service to find “Adore” in her mailbox. I have been listening to this CD on repeat all of my waking hours since then. God’s timing is perfect.

Passion: Let the Future Begin Review

It is no secret that I am a fan of Christian music. As a musician and music educator, I just don’t see the value in listening to music that doesn’t lift my spirits or soothe my soul. Music has such an effect on our lives and our emotions that I believe it is important to filter what we listen to. Chris Tomlin, the United States most prolific songwriter according to Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI), along with Pastor Louie Giglio and other great Christian teachers and musicians were all key leaders of Passion 2013, a four-day gathering in January of this year, attended by a generation of 18-25 year olds from around the world. The conference was profiled in the national spotlight as students representing 52 countries and over 2,000 universities gave more than $3 million to help fund the freedom fight for the more than 27 million human slaves currently in captivity.

The album Passion: Let the Future Begin was recorded live during the gathering and was released earlier this month to record sales and ratings. Passion: Let the Future Begin had a No. 1 debut atop Christian SoundScan, as well No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200, the highest Billboard entry ever for a Passion recording. Garnering sales in excess of 47,000 units, this also marks sixstepsrecords’ second album this year to debut in the top 5 of the Billboard Top 200, following GRAMMY® winner Chris Tomlin’s No. 1 entry with Burning Lights this past January.

I have been listening to this CD for the past two weeks almost non-stop. There are new songs and some re-makes of classic Tomlin songs but unlike most worship albums, I like every song on this release. “God’s Great Dance Floor” is a 21st century call to worship which I’m sure was amazing at the live recording! How awesome it must have been to witness thousands of young adults dancing and praising the Lord!

For about the past decade Chris Tomlin has been America’s worship leader, if not the world’s. According to TIME magazine, over 40 million people sing the songs of Chris Tomlin each week! Tomlin’s music has literally reached around the world and that world influence is heard in the 1st track of this project. “How Great is Our God (World Edition)” which features Tomlin along with the voices of several worship leaders he’s met in his travels across the globe, each singing a portion of the song in their native tongue, is a stirring reminder that God is at work around the world and that we need to remember to pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ around the world.

How Great Is Our God: The Essential Collection is at its least a best of collection from Chris Tomlin but in all honesty, it is much more than that. This is the kind of CD you can listen to in your house, car or at your church and be swept away in worship. The first time I listened to it I was driving on the interstate and I sang along and worshiped all the way to my destination-it sure made the time fly. For me, this CD has become an essential part of my personal worship time and I’m sure it would make a great inspirational gift for Christ lovers on your gift giving list.

Audrey Assad-The House You’re Building CD Review

I have liked Audrey Assad’s music since I first heard her singing “Winter Snow” on Chris Tomlin’s CD Glory in the Highest-Christmas Songs of Worship last fall. Since then she has been featured in studio on my local Christian Radio station, TheJoyFM, a few times and I just love her soothing vocals and sweet spirit.

I was very excited when I was asked to review her debut solo album, The House You’re Building, which released last month. In case you haven’t heard of Audrey yet here is some info:

Audrey is a 27-year-old singer/songwriter based out of Phoenix. Individualistic. A free spirit. Untraditional. Truly one-of-a-kind, this intensely honest singer-songwriter is carving out her own unique path in the music industry and opening hearts to God along the way. I think her story of self-acceptance would be a great fit for your audience! Digital outlets have already welcomed Assad with the single “For Love Of You” receiving one of iTunes ® strongest debuts on the Christian/Gospel Singles chart. Assad has already toured with industry elites Chris Tomlin, Matt Maher, Tenth Ave North and more. The 27 year-old, Phoenix-based singer songwriter also landed a duet with Chris Tomlin with “Winter Snow” on his Glory in the Highest Christmas album as well as sang with Brandon Heath on 2 songs from forthcoming Jars of Clay Shelter project.

Audrey’s clear, haunting voice is beautiful and soothing to the soul. The songs on The House You’re Building are a well thought out mix of worship, prayer and praise songs. I’ve listened to the CD several times and I have had trouble choosing a favorite song. This is one of those CDs that I will worship with in my quiet time and a different song will hit me as significant depending on what I am walking through at the time. I think right now my favorite is “Restless”, this is the chorus: “And I’m restless, I’m restless, ‘Til I rest in You let me rest in You. And I’m restless, I’m restless, ‘Til I rest in You let me rest in You. O God I will rest in You.” Those lyrics about sum it up for me right now.

28th Annual Night of Joy at Walt Disney World

September 10-11, 2010 the sounds of some of the top Christan music acts return to the Magic Kingdom for the 28th annual Night of Joy. I have attended Night of Joy on and off since the very 1st Annual Night of Joy! I am so glad that it is back in the Magic Kingdom after a 2 year stint a Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

This year’s line-up of Christian music all-stars that are performing include:
Friday, September 10 Chris Tomlin, David Crowder Band, Casting Crowns, BarlowGirl, Francesca Battistelli, Group 1 Crew, Tenth Avenue North, and Sidewalk Prophets

Saturday, September 11 mercyme, Third Day, Family Force 5, Smokie Norful, Red, LeCrae, Day of Fire

From 7 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. each night – after regular Magic Kingdom hours – the special-ticket event will feature live performances on several stages throughout the park. In addition, guests can experience some of the park’s most popular attractions during Night of Joy hours.

Musically, the acts add up to a lineup that runs the spectrum from Rock, Hip Hop and R&B … to Pop, Adult Contemporary and Gospel – continuing a tradition that has been a hallmark of Night of Joy since 1983 when the event began.
