A few weeks ago a company called Doodle Roll followed me on Twitter. I noticed that they were based in my hometown of Beverly, MA so I reached out to them on Twitter. They asked me if I would be willing to review their product on my blog so, here we are. I have to start out by saying that somehow, somewhere the photos of the kids at church using the Doodle Roll have been lost. I have checked on every memory card, and they are gone! So I am sorry but the images in this post are stock images.
A Doodle Roll is an arts and craft kit that includes a roll of paper and some crayons. The rolls come in 2 sizes 4″ wide or 6″ wide. The Doodle Roll has won several awards, they are all listed on the Doodle Roll website.

Honestly, when you visit the shop tab on the website there is no place to order a single Doodle Roll and there are no stores local to me that carry the Doodle Roll. On the website the Trial Pack which includes one 4″ Doodle Roll and one 6″ Doodle Roll sells for $14.00, which seems rather pricey to me.

I brought the 4″ Doodle Roll to church one Wednesday night for the 3-5 year olds to color on before their class started. The Doodle Roll didn’t go over well with this age group. The children didn’t like sharing the paper and the crayons kept breaking and I had to quickly bring out our regular bucket of name brand crayons to save the project. The 4″ size was also too narrow for the young children to work on.

I gave the 6″ Doodle Roll to the K-2nd grade class. They fared a bit better but again I had to bring in the “good” crayons. This age had less trouble sharing the work space and were able to work together towards a common finished project, a banner for a teacher who had been away for a few weeks. When I asked the class if any of them would like a Doodle Roll of their own to take home, none of the girls raised their hands. When I asked them why they didn’t want one little B said she would rather color in her coloring books and S said she didn’t want to have to share with her brothers.

Unfortunately, the Doodle Roll wasn’t at big hit with the kids ages 3-8 that I tried it with, even if it has won some toy and creativity awards. What do you think? Would your kids like the Doodle Roll? Leave me a comment and let me know.

Disclosure: I received a 4″ and a 6″ Doodle Roll for the purpose of this review. All opinions are 100% mine.

Easter is only a few days away and savvy moms are already planning Easter outfits and Easter dinner. Now it’s time to plan some Easter fun for the kids, and the best place to turn is Disney’s FamilyFun magazine and website. Here are just a few ideas…

Crafts

Make a Sheep Egg using hard-boiled eggs, vibrant egg dye, a cute pipe cleaner stand, and some glued-on details (paper ears, pom-pom nose, and so on), this critter is an Easter favorite.

Try some Pop-Up Eggs! Make your Easter extra festive with this 3-D paper egg. The secret to its look is colorful, accordion-folded paper strips.
Bunny Bean Bags: Make your own bunny beanbag and get some use from the single socks left behind.

Easter Activities

The Great Egg Drop: Kids construct protective coverings around raw eggs before dropping onto a target below. The goal is to hit the bull’s eye without breaking the eggs – making a little bit of a mess and a lot of fun memories!

Less Sugary Easter Egg Hunts: Fill plastic eggs with puzzle pieces to make Easter egg hunts more fun and less sugary.

A Kid-Friendlier Way to Dye Eggs: Put the eggs in wire whisks, and dip away!

Check out these and the hundreds of other great Easter celebration ideas online or in Disney’s FamilyFun magazine.
