I need to start off this post by saying that I broke one of my own rules in covering this movie. I don’t usually cover R-rated entertainment. I turn down a lot of offers because of this. There is so much crap in the “entertainment” world that I won’t promote due to violence, language and sex. I broke my rules for AMERICAN SNIPER because even though it has violence (it is a war movie), it has language (there are tons of “F”-bombs) it is a story that needs to be told. It is the story of an American hero based on the book written by that hero and stories told to the screenwriters by his wife. Chris Kyle is a hero who saved many lives while in service to his country and we need heroes, even imperfect ones, like Chris.

AMERICAN SNIPER SYNOPSIS

From director Clint Eastwood comes “American Sniper,” starring Bradley Cooper as Chris Kyle, whose skills as a sniper made him a hero on the battlefield.

But there was much more to him than his skill as a sharpshooter.

Navy SEAL Chris Kyle is sent to Iraq with only one mission: to protect his brothers-in-arms. His pinpoint accuracy saves countless lives on the battlefield, and as stories of his courageous exploits spread, he earns the nickname “Legend.” However, his reputation is also growing behind enemy lines, putting a price on his head and making him a prime target of insurgents. Mom Maven’s Thoughts

This movie doesn’t hold back on the realities of war. The language, the sets, the heart and the split-second decision making necessary to be a sniper are all portrayed in this film. What I liked about the film was how it also showed what the military family who is left behind struggles with as well. It was a well-rounded movie that shows us that our real heroes wear camouflage and risk their lives daily for our freedom.

After you watch the movie, watch the bonus features. They give wonderful insight into the tedious process that went into making this movie. The story changed after Chris’ murder, there was no longer a happy ending for the Kyle family. While this film is not appropriate for those under the age of 18, I do hope you will watch it and be reminded to pray for our service men and women every day.
