Earlier this week I popped into our brand new Hair Cuttery in Ranch Lake Plaza to get a new, and much overdue haircut. It was my first time in a Hair Cuttery and Alexis was my stylist. He listened to my concerns, discussed my options with me and then gave me a great cut. While I was in the salon I got to talk with Alexis and his manager about the Share-a-Haircut promotion that Hair Cuttery is sponsoring. It was great to see their enthusiasm for this national program.
A new haircut is just one of the many things parents need to take care of as they prepare their kids to head back to school. In a recent survery by Hair Cuttery of moms with school-aged children, 88% of moms believe haircuts help their child feel good and more confident about themselves while 86% of moms say that having more confidence allows their child to perform better in school; and nearly four in ten moms believe a haircut boosts their child’s performance in school. To help families who are struggling get their kids that all important haircut, Hair Cuttery is working with more than 150 local governments and community organizations, Hair Cuttery determines the areas of greatest need. Nearly 900 salons nationwide will participate in this year’s event.
This is the program’s 14th year and in the first 13 years Hair Cuttery has given away more than 700,000 haircuts to children in need! “Share-a-Haircut is about the ritual of preparing for a new school year,” said Dennis Ratner, Founder and CEO of Hair Cuttery. “A new haircut symbolizes a new start and new possibilities. We want kids to associate feeling good about themselves with getting ready for back to school.” “Having been a stylist my entire life, I understand the impact a fresh new haircut can have on someone’s self-esteem,” said Ratner. “I love seeing the look on a child’s face when they first check-out their haircut in the mirror. They walk out of the salon with a little extra pep in their step. That extra confidence can make a big difference to children as they start the new school year.
