Last August I shared the Real Steel trailer with you. I am not one who usually likes robot movies or fight movies but for some reason this one interested me. When the movie came out in October my 16yo son and I went to see it. We both loved the movie and when we left my son said, “When this comes out on video I’m buying it.” Fast forward to December 16 when I received an email asking if we’d like to review the Blu-Ray DVD Combo pack-I of course I replied, “Yes!”

The day the package arrived we sat down as a family to watch the David and Goliath-like battles unfold right in our own living room. The heartwarming story of the father/son duo Charlie and Max Kenton and their friends, fighting bots Ambush and Atom.  I never thought I could like a movie about fighting robots but the script writing, cinematography and acting are so well done that you begin to believe the bots are human.

This is not a “perfect” family movie. It is rated PG-13 for violence, intense action and language. I wouldn’t let the little ones watch this movie IMHO.

On January 24th, DreamWorks Studios releases REAL STEEL on Blu-ray Hi-Def and DVD! Set in the not-so-distant future where boxing has gone high-tech and 2000-pound steel robots have taken over the ring, this heart-warming story of a winning father-son team film stars Hugh Jackman, Evangeline Lilly, Kevin Durand, and Anthony Mackie. Bonus material includes behind-the-scenes features revealing the magic behind the sets and characters, Bloopers, and more!

The bonus features are great too. We really enjoyed the “Making of Metal Alley” and we can’t wait to watch with the director’s commentary. Here is a clip of the bonus features.

I recommend this movie for families with kids ages 11+. Head to the store and pick up a copy of REAL STEEL when it hits shelves on January 24th.
