The Tree of Life, the icon of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This amazing man-made sculpture always brings a smile to my face as I enter the park because every time I hear a misinformed parent telling their child that the huge tree was here when they started to build the park so Disney decided to carve the animals into the bark…Ummm parents, please don’t lie to your kids.
The Tree of Life is a sculpture. The base is actually an oil rig! The tree is 14 stories tall and over 165 feet wide at its widest point. There are more than 8500 branches on the tree and 103,000 leaves that were placed on the tree by hand. The 325 animals that are carved into the Tree of Life were created by 13 artists. The Tree of Life is an amazing feat of engineering and artistry at the center of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park.
