The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is a great attraction for the entire family (there are explosions and some young children may be frightened by the loud noises). The show, based on famous scenes from the 1981 hit movie Raiders of the Lost Ark, is full of action, adventure and comedy. They even include audience members, ages 18+, as extras in the show so you may have the opportunity to be on stage!
The show opened on August 25, 1989 and was executive produced by George Lucas. The open-air theater, located near Echo Lake seats 2150 guests. There are several shows a day, weather permitting.
The pre-show includes a casting director choosing audience members to be in the show. Once chosen they are costumed and given some basic directions for during the show. The show itself opens in a Peruvian Temple where our hero is narrowly avoiding several booby traps as he attempts to get a hold of the golden idol. Scene two we are on the streets of Cairo where Indy and Marion get caught up in a huge fight scene that ends in a large explosion. In the final action-packed scene the Nazis are trying to take the Ark back to Berlin. This scene includes a scaled down German aircraft, machine guns and a huge explosion.
Throughout the 25 minute show the “director” and “stunt coordinator” explain what is going on and how some of the stunts are done thus educating the audience on movie making magic all the while reminding them not to try these stunts at home.
