I have been a fan of Matt Redman’s music for a long time. His songs have been a staple in the contemporary Christian church for almost 20 years. What? You’ve never heard of him? Well, you may not know him as much as a singer but you probably know him as a song writer. Just a few of his most popular songs include “The Heart of Worship”, “Better is One Day”, “10,000 Reasons”, “Blessed Be Your Name”, “Dancing Generation”, and “Undignified”. Ok, so you probably haven’t sung “Undignified” or “Dancing Generation” on a Sunday morning but they have been sung in youth services for years and are two of my favorites to this day. Matt’s latest album, his 13th, Glory Song releases on September 29, 2017.

“I’d made three live albums in a row, so this time around we decided to get back to recording in the studio and I was beyond grateful to get to do that at such an iconic place – Capitol Studios in LA,” explains Redman. “My aim from the beginning was to bring a bit more of a ‘gospel’ sound to proceedings. Recently I’ve been inspired by worship leaders like Tasha Cobbs Leonard, but also so aware of how little our various streams of the church seem to proactively reach out and work and worship with each other. So this record hopefully still sounds like me, but you’ll also hear the likes of Tasha, Kierra Sheard and a gospel choir in the mix too – and I love what they bring.”

I have been a fan of Matt Redman's music for a long time. Matt's latest worship album, his 13th, Glory Song releases on September 29, 2017.

Mom Maven’s Thoughts on Glory Song

Overall this is a bit of a diverse album, which is what Matt Redman was going for with Glory Song. “Simple Pursuit” has been my favorite song for almost 2 years, since it was covered on the Passion Salvation’s Tide is Rising album. My new favorite on this album is “Gracefully Broken”. The lyrics ring so true in my life, and probably in yours too. “Your Ways”, the last song on the album, is a song I can easily see our worship team at RiverLife singing. I love the upbeat “Still I Will Sing”, yes, I will sing in the good times and the bad times! The only song that wasn’t a win for me was “Gospel Song”. Actually I liked the song a lot and could see us doing it on a Sunday morning but then the rap section happened and it just didn’t work for me. I like a good rap break…this just wasn’t one. It disrupted the song and detracted from the message instead of adding to it.
