Nestled in Soundstage 4 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is a walk-through attraction, “The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow”. This attraction opened in December 2012 with no fanfare whatsoever. Many people don’t even know this attraction exists even though it is on the maps. I am not a fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, but I am a fan of the ride so I had to check this attraction out soon after its opening.

Showtimes for this attraction vary and earlier this summer, they were using the new paper Fastpass that Disney has been testing this summer to reduce wait times. We received our Crew Card return time and visited other attractions while we waited for our turn.

The first room you enter you are greeted by the disembodied skull which acts as your host an narrator for the entire experience.

Next we enter into the cave where we are surrounded on 3 sides by the treasures and booty that belongs to Captain Jack. The state-of-the-art projections used in this attraction are amazing and I feel, a nod to what exciting things we will be seeing in future attractions. Throughout the experience our Skull narrator asks the audience to get involved by chanting, stomping or singing along. Of course, Captain Jack makes an appearance and swears the guests in as honorary crew members.

While this attraction is just a few minutes long, it pays homage to Captain Jack and looks to the future of Disney attraction technology. Be warned-this attraction may be scary for small children. You are standing in the air conditioning for the length of the attraction and in the hot Florida weather that fact alone might make it worth checking out.

Have you experienced this attraction? I like it but I know a lot of people don’t. What are your thoughts?

The legend of Captain Jack Sparrow sounds and looks like one to add to my ‘to see’ list for my next Disney visit.

    Thanks for your article

I’ve never been to Disney, but every year at the Fourth of July parade, there is a man that dresses up like Captain Jack Sparrow and walks the parade route (without paying– he just does it) He looks like a twin. People get pictures with him and everything!

Tammy, Walt Disney World is my happy place, I have been visiting since 1972. I hope that some day you are able to experience the magic of a Disney vacation.

We checked out this ride on our last visit to Disney because we love the Pirate movies. However, my husband and boys were disappointed. I think they were expecting more of a ride like the original. I did enjoy the way they incorporate Johnny Depp into it, along with his funny antics, so if you’re a Johnny ‘Jack Sparrow’ fan like me, you’ll appreciate the feature.
