Hot cocoa is my warm beverage of choice, I drink it every morning. I’ve gotten very picky about my hot cocoa over the last 6 years or so. I started working on a new hot cocoa mix recipe last summer and I am finally bringing it to you today. This hot cocoa is delicious and creamy and it makes a great gift! You can whip up a single batch to make 1 quart or 2 pint jars for gift giving. I intend to give mine to a large family from my church so I am giving them the quart jar. Since it’s Christmas time, I also whipped up some Candy Cane Marshmallows to go with the hot cocoa. I need to make more of these because I’m kind of addicted to adding them to my morning cocoa!
Need a last minute hostess gift? Whip up a batch of this Hot Cocoa Mix with Candy Cane Marshmallows and you will be all set,
- 2 cups confectioner's sugar
- 1 1/2 cups cocoa powder
- 3 cups dry milk
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups milk chocolate chips
- 6 marshmallows full-size
- 6 mini candy canes
- 4 large candy canes
- 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
Clean and dry 2 pint Mason jars with lids or 1 quart Mason jar with lid.
In a medium bowl, sift together the confectioner's sugar, cocoa powder, dry milk and salt.
Pour the powdered mix and the chocolate chips into your food processor and pulse until the chips are in tiny pieces and everything is well mixed.
(If you have a small food processor like I do, split the recipe in half and do this step twice).
Now just pour your cocoa mix into your Mason jar(s) and seal with the lid.
To make a cup of cocoa add 2-3 TBS of cocoa mix to an 8 oz cup of hot water.
Cover a plate or tray with parchment paper.
Remove the wrappers from all the candy canes and set them on a clean plate.
Place the marshmallows on the parchment covered plate. Stick a small candy cane in each marshmallow, like a handle.
Place the large candy canes in the food processor and pulse until they are small bits.
Using a double boiler, melt the chocolate chips while stirring constantly.
Remove melted chocolate from the stove.
Using the small candy cane as a handle, dip the marshmallow in the chocolate.
Sprinkle the crushed up candy cane on the chocolate.
Set the candy cane marshmallow back on the parchment covered plate to dry.
Allow to dry completely before placing in an airtight bag for gifting.
