This morning at about 12:15am I was closing down my computer to head to bed when…Hic-Cup! Oh my, it was soooo loud and painful it reminded me of the Alf episode when he had the Melmacian Hiccups (yes, I know I just dated myself!). After about 15 minutes of violent hiccuping I tried holding my breath, guzzling water, sipping water and a spoonful of sugar…none of which worked.

The rest of the family was asleep and I was trying to be quiet but it is difficult to stifle hiccups of this magnitude. I had been chatting with a friend on AIM and he kept typing “Boo!” to try to scare them out of me…but that didn’t work either. After about an hour of suffering, I turned to Twitter. There I received some suggestions that I had already tried…and one new one. My friend Shannan of FromCribstoCarKeys.com told me to try a spoonful of peanut butter. It worked! By 1:30am my hiccups were gone and I could finally head to bed.

So, what is your go-to hiccup cure? Mine has always been the spoonful of sugar with water…until this morning. Now, I shall suggest peanut butter! Leave me a comment and let me know what usually works for you.

This is kind of hard to describe, but I will do my best. The fail-safe way to cure hiccups (for me) it to drink out of the opposite side of your cup with 9 sips. How? Put your lips on the opposite side of the cup, then end at the waist so you are kind of hanging upside down. Make sense?

I usually just drink some water or wait until someone gets tired of hearing me and scares me! Haha!

I just hold my breath on and off for a while until the hiccups stop. I guess I’ve never them that bad before. Maybe you’re prone to them because of the way you laugh (snort)!

    How funny!

    1) I loved Alf as a child!

    2) My kids are always getting hic-ups. My twins are 4 and they get really annoyed with hic-ups. We have them take a deep breath and hold it… keep holding it…. ok, blow it out. Repeat. Repeat. And they usually go away.

    3) Otherwise my husband scares them. That generally works. 😉

    Cute!

    1) I loved Alf when I was a kid! We watched it every week… was it Monday nights?

    2) Our 4 yr old twins get hiccups all the time. We tell them to take a deep breath and hold it. Keep holding it. Now let it out and do it again. Ususally the hiccups go away. Otherwise my husband scares them.

    3) Peanut Butter. I wonder why? We’ll have to try that!

I have never had hiccups that bad so I just let them do their thing and I pay little attention to them so I have no tips to offer sorry. I hope you find something that works for you 🙂
