Years ago, when I was first introduced to Contemporary Christian Fiction it was through a book by Robin Jones Gunn called Secrets, the first book in her Glenbrooke series. Of course, I devoured the entire series and I remember waiting impatiently for each of the 8 books to be written and released. I’ve read a few other Robin Jones Gunn books over the years and I was excited when I was invited to review a Christmas trilogy by this talented writer.
I seldom do book reviews because they always seem to come when I don’t have time to read. Over the last few days I have read Finding Father Christmas, Engaging Father Christmas and Kissing Father Christmas. I wanted to get Finding Father Christmas read so I could tell you about the book and the TV movie! Finding Father Christmas has been turned into a Hallmark Channel Christmas movie that is kicking off Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas season on November 13th. Erin Krakow, the beloved lead actress in the Hallmark TV series When Calls the Heart, stars in the movie as well! If you want to see a preview sneak peek of the Hallmark movie just click the link.
About the Finding Father Christmas Trilogy
In Finding Father Christmas, you first meet Miranda as she journeys to the small town of Carlton Heath (outside of London) to uncover her father’s identity using a few small clues left behind by her deceased mother.
In Engaging Father Christmas, Miranda returns to the small town that she’s fallen in love with to rejoin her boyfriend (hopefully soon-to-be fiancé) just in time for Christmas.
In Kissing Father Christmas, Ann’s first visit to Carlton Heath was to attend the wedding of her cousin Ian to Miranda. A groomsman caught her eye during the wedding. Upon Anna’s return visit, will Father Christmas bestow on her the gift of love which she has dreamed of for so long?
Mom Maven’s Thoughts on the Finding Father Christmas Trilogy
Finding Father Christmas-Personally, I had a bit of a difficult time getting into this book. While it takes place in the present day, it felt to me like it should take place in the past. The lead character of Miranda is multi-dimensional and has her fair share of personal demons to overcome. The characters of Katharine and Andrew are genteel and endearing. The story has a few twists and turns.
Engaging Father Christmas-I loved this book, except the way it ended. I wanted more of this story! I’ve already grown to love the characters so I really wanted to go deeper with them.
Kissing Father Christmas-This book includes the characters from the first 2 books but it centers around a new character, Anna. This book is written from Anna’s perspective while the first two were from Amanda’s. I found this a bit confusing at times because I read the 3 books in succession and they are all written in the first person. Other than that, the story line was delightful and again I wanted more.
I hope you check out the books as well as the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries TV movie based on the book. I already have my DVR set!
