I am a huge fan of Beverly Lewis’ writing and have read many of her books. It has been over 10 years since I read “The Confession” and almost 2 years since I reviewed the DVD of its predecessor, The Shunning so I can’t speak to how closely the movie followed the plot of the book. The Confession is the continuing tale of 20 year old Katie Lapp, who was adopted and raised Amish, trying to find her New York socialite birth-mother, Laura Mayfield-Bennett who is dying of cancer. There are plot twists that include hidden secrets, lies and betrayal.

The cast includes:

  • Sherry Stringfield as Laura Mayfield-Bennett
  • Katie Leclerc as Katie Lapp
  • Adrian Paul as Dylan Bennett
  • Michael Rupnow as Justin Wirth
  • Julia Whelan as Alyson
  • Cameron Deane Stewart as Daniel Fisher

The Confession DVD

The story and acting are good. I am a fan of Leclerc’s from Switched at Birth but it is odd that the role of Katie Lapp was played by Danielle Panabaker in The Shunning and is now played by Leclerc in the second installment. This kind of inconsistency annoys me as a viewer, especially if I were to host a movie night and show the movies back to back with some returning cast and a replacement main character.

Overall, my husband and I enjoyed the movie and I will share the DVD with my friends who are also Beverly Lewis fans. The movie will be available in store on June 11, 2013.

Disclosure: I received a copy of the DVD for the purpose of this review. All opinions are 100% mine.
