Recently we celebrated my brother-in-law’s 50th birthday. Mike is the hardest guy to surprise. Each Christmas morning, he guesses his gifts before he opens them, no matter how they are concealed. My sister bravely decided to throw Mike a surprise party the weekend before his birthday in an attempt to actually pull one over on him.
The party was held at his best friend’s house and they were getting him there under the guise of having dinner before watching the Bucs pre-season football game. The party guests parked at the subdivision clubhouse and were shuttled to the party location. All of the guests, except 1 were gathered in the front room when Mike arrived. Surprise! We had done it! Mike was totally caught off guard, and Wendy cried tears of joy. Mike greeted everyone in the room individually and then the party moved back into the kitchen/den area of the home. Mike was hugging a guest when his daughter, who had come home from college for the party, hopped up from behind the breakfast bar and said, “Hey, I should get a hug too!” There were more hugs…and tears and everyone enjoyed the party.
My sister asked me to bring an appetizer to the party and much to her dismay, I insisted on bringing something new 🙂 I located this recipe for Doritos Dip and I thought…who needs a dip for Doritos? Doritos are great on their own. Still, I was sucked in and I had to try it. The ingredients were basic and the recipe was simple…mix the ingredients together and chill. So I did.
- 8 oz cream cheese softened
- 8 oz sour cream
- 4 oz can of chopped green chiles
- 1/3 cup bacon bits
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- In a medium bowl, mix all ingredients together.
- Cover and chill for at least 4 hours so the flavors can meld together.
- If desired, top with additional bacon bits.
- Serve with original Doritos.
The dip and Doritos were the only foods open during the time we were waiting for the call that Mike was on his way. Before Mike arrived about half of the dip had already been eaten and several people had asked for the recipe. I did try the dip with Tostitos as well but it didn’t cut it. This dip is made for Doritos!
I hope you enjoy this recipe and all of the easy recipes I share here on The Mom Maven. I hope you share them on your social networks. I just ask that you not copy and share the entire recipe with photos. Please use the sharing buttons below and share the link to this post. Thanks!
