Chris August, the 2001 Gospel Music Association New Artist of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year released his sophomore album in August. The new album, The Upside Of Down comes after a skateboarding fall that landed Chris in the ICU with a severe subdural hemorrhage – a bruised, bleeding, and swelling brain – that nearly required a very serious surgery to overcome. Fortunately, the swelling went down, and he was able to return home a week later and start his recovery.

The title of the album parallels his journey and the humbling healing process over the last several months. The songs reflect that theme, too, as reminders that the hard times in life can be transformed into good. The lead single from the album, the powerful “Center of It,” already reigns in the Top 10 after only a handful of weeks on the charts and is poised to continue its ascent.

This album showcases August’s vocal abilities as well as true musicianship. So many of today’s top artist’s aren’t musicians anymore but Chris August is the real deal. The album is very mellow with powerful lyrics, it is great to listen to while unwinding from a long day. Your heart will be soothed and your mind can meditate on the love and grace of God that emanates from these deep heartfelt lyrics.

The Upside of Down Track Listing:

  • Center Of It
  • The Upside Of Down
  • Amen

My favorite track is “Amen” and in all honesty, 1989 makes me feel old!
