This past Sunday our small group had Thanksgiving dinner together. I was in charge of dessert. I headed straight to my Tasty Treats Pinterest board to find a recipe to try. I decided to make Cinnamon Roll Dutch Apple Pie which I had pinned from Pillsbury.com. I LOVE Dutch Apple Pie and using Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls for the crust sounded heavenly! This pie was so delicious and it is one of my easy recipes. I wanted to make sure you had the recipe in case you wanted to add it to your Thanksgiving dinner menu.

Cinnamon Roll Dutch Apple Pie Ingredients

: Cinnamon Roll Dutch Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 cup + 2 TBS all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 can 12.4oz Pillsbury refrigerated Cinnamon Rolls with icing
  • 4-6 medium Granny Smith Apples, thinly sliced
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/4 tsp apple pie spice
  • 2 TBS lemon juice

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 375 degrees
  2. In a medium bowl mix the crumb topping ingredients together until small clumps form: 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup softened butter. Refrigerate.
  3. Spoon icing from can of rolls into small microwavable bowl; cover and refrigerate.
  4. Lightly flour rolling pin and work surface or cutting board. Separate dough into 8 rolls. With rolling pin, roll each cinnamon roll, cinnamon side up, into 4- to 5-inch round.
  5. In ungreased 9-inch glass pie plate, place 1 dough round in center. Arrange remaining 7 dough rounds around center round and up side of plate, overlapping slightly as necessary. With fingers, press dough to seal together in bottom and up side of pie plate to form crust. Flute edge.
  6. In large bowl, gently mix filling ingredients: 4-6 Granny Smith Apples thinly sliced, 3/4 cup granulated sugar, 2 TBS all-purpose flour, 1 1/4 tsp apple pie spice and 2 TBS lemon juice.
  7. Spoon filling into cinnamon roll-lined pie plate.
  8. Sprinkle crumb topping over top to completely cover filling.
  9. Bake about 1 hour or until top is golden brown and apples are tender. Cool on cooling rack at least 1 hour.
  10. Before serving, microwave icing on High 10 to 15 seconds or until runny enough to drizzle. Drizzle back and forth over top of pie.

Cinnamon Roll Dutch Apple Pie Crust

I only used about 4 of the Granny Smith apples because the pie was too full. This was probably because I don’t own a 9″ glass pie plate so I used an aluminium pie plate.

Cinnamon Roll Dutch Apple Pie Filling

I forgot the icing at home so we didn’t use it on our pie. We did microwave the slices and serve them with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Cinnamon Roll Dutch Apple Pie

This is the best apple pie ever and I hope you enjoy it! Please feel free to share it with your friends via Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter-they deserve something sweet in their life too!
