Walt Disney World is closed and I’m Struggling. I preface this post by saying I totally understand why they are closed. I agree they should be closed during this crazy time. That doesn’t make it any easier.
Hi! My name is Cindy and it’s been 1 month since my last day at Walt Disney World. I’m struggling a bit because I don’t know when I will be visiting again.
I know that opening sounds a bit spoiled. Many people are lucky to visit Walt Disney World once in their lives and I go just about every month. I am a Florida resident and a Gold Walt Disney World Passholder. I live about 2 hours away from the parks so my goal is to spend 1-2 days there each month with two or three 4-5 day vacations each year.
Our last trip was February 28-March 2nd. It was our Christmas gift to my mother. Myself, Ron, Jordan, Savannah, Aaron, and Summer gave mom lots of Disney gift cards for Christmas to pay for this trip. We got her the 4 day Florida Discover Disney ticket and we stayed in an off-property time share with points we are gifted each year from Ron’s parents. Aaron and Summer did not come with us on the trip since they are not currently passholders.
After that trip we planned on visiting March 20th and April 28th for the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival and then again mid-May for my birthday. All of those plans are now canceled because of the Coronavirus. Disney Closed Walt Disney World March 16th and has announced it will remain closed until further notice.
Walt Disney World is our happy place. It is where we go to escape the real world. It’s where we laugh the loudest thanks to the amazing entertainment. We have been visiting regularly as a family since 1997 and my very first visit was 1972 and then more regularly when we moved to Florida in 1980. The parks have been a part of my life since I was a young child.
I told Jordan the other night that I’m usually fine knowing I’ll be back next month or occasionally taking a random day off and running away to a park when we need to. Knowing that isn’t an option right now makes me want it even more. I feel like a child who, when you tell them they can’t have something-it’s all they want, the one forbidden thing.
So, how do Disney mega-fans survive not being in the parks?
- We watch a lot of Disney+
- We listen to a lot of Disney music
- We watch Disney ride videos on YouTube
- We plan our next visit with a list of most-missed attractions and foods!
- We play Disney games-Disney Monopoly, Disney Sorry, Disney Trivia, Disney Music Trivia
How are you surviving this time with no Walt Disney World and no Disneyland? I’ve already told Ron that I hope to be there the day the gates re-open. It might even have to be a 4 Parks-1 Day kind of visit! What about you? Are you planning on visiting once this quarantine is lifted? When you are ready to book you trip just Email me and we will start planning!
