If you have teens or tweens who are Disney Channel fans then you probably already know about the latest DCOM hit Lemonade Mouth. We have watched it several times in our house and we really enjoy it.
Lemonade Mouth is the story of 5 unlikely friends who end up together in detention, in the school’s basement music room. While cleaning up the room they discover that they each have musical talents and form a garage band. It isn’t all smooth sailing though because the school’s #1 garage band, Mudslide Crush, doesn’t like the fact that their status is being questioned. This is a movie that deals some real life relational, cultural and social justice issues as well as showcasing some pretty good music. This is NOT High School Musical redone, as I have heard some people say. This isn’t even truly a musical (characters don’t break out into song in the middle of a conversation…though I am a huge fan of musicals). This is a band movie and as such there is music when the band is performing or rehearsing. Lemonade Mouth stars Bridgit Mendler (Good Luck Charlie, Wizards of Waverly Place), Adam Hicks (Zeke and Luther, Jonas), Hayley Kiyoko (Wizards of Waverly Place), Naomi Scott, and Blake Michael.
The movie is 2011’s No. 1 cable movie in Total Viewers and the No. 1 TV movie among Kids 6-11 and Tweens. Additionally, Lemonade Mouth’s original soundtrack also has become a huge success, ranking in the Top 5 of the Billboard 200 for two weeks, No. 1 on the iTunes Soundtrack chart and No. 4 on the iTunes Album chart. The album also ranked No. 1 on Billboard’s Soundtrack and Children’s Music charts. Moreover, hit songs ―Somebody,‖ ―Determinate‖ and ―Don’t Ya Wish U Were Us‖ rank in the Radio Disney Top 30.
Lemonade Mouth comes out on DVD Tuesday, May 24, 2011. The DVD includes a digital copy so you can enjoy the movie on the go. The DVD also includes an optional “Rock Along” feature which allows you to see the words to the songs on the screen so you can sing along. It also includes a bonus track with the song “Livin’ on a Highwire”. The Lemonade Mouth DVD would make a great birthday gift or end of the school year gift. It is perfect for viewing…and rocking out, during that summer slumber party.
One of my favorite songs from the film is “Determinate” so I thought I’d let you enjoy it too.
Lemonade Mouth is appropriate for all ages and our family gives it a B+! Have you or your kids seen Lemonade Mouth? What are your thoughts?
