This month’s review for Chewy.com is for the Nylabone DuraChew. Mushu is very picky about her toys. Her favorite are all soft and they all squeak. The Nylabone DuraChew is neither of those things. She does have a hard rubber ball that she loves so I thought we would give this toy a try.

About the Nylabone DuraChew

Powerful chompers have finally met their match with the Nylabone DuraChew Dental Chew Dinosaur Dog Toy. Designed to hold up to tough chewers, this chew toy gives bored dogs something to sink their teeth into, while the unique texture is great for dental health—offering two convenient uses in one adorable dino shape. The chicken flavor is enticing for dogs, and the rounded nubs help to clean their teeth and freshen their breath as they gnaw away!

  • Long-lasting non-edible dog toy made for powerful chewers to prevent destructive chewing.
  • Extreme chewing style keeps dogs busy, happy, and satisfied with its savory chicken flavor that lasts as long as the toy.
  • Action cleaning nubs help clean teeth, reduce tartar, control plaque, and massage gums.
  • Made with a tough, durable nylon and recommended by veterinarians.

Mushu’s Thoughts

I have to be honest. Mushu didn’t like the Nylabone DuraChew at all. When I first gave it to her she sniffed it then ignored it. The next time she licked it a bit then ignored it. From then on she would push it away or off the couch whenever we tried to give it to her. She wasn’t interested at all.

Mushu’s best friend Bear Trap comes over almost every day for a visit so we brought it out to see if she was interested. Again, both dogs sniffed it and then ignored it. When Levi threw the toy for Bear Trap to fetch, she ran after it, brought it back and started gnawing on it. I guess she just needed some inspiration. We let Bear Trap take the toy home since Mushu wasn’t interested in it, even when it was thrown.

Mom Maven’s Thoughts on the Nylabone DuraChew

I really wanted Mushu to like it. I worry about her teeth because, while she does eat dry dog food, she doesn’t gnaw on anything to help keep her teeth and gums clean and healthy. Our dog groomer does a good job of cleaning her teeth, but Mushu only goes 3-4 times a year.

If you are a small dog owner, how do you keep their little teeth healthy and strong? I’d really like to know, please leave me a comment with your tips.
