Many parents are concerned about how their newly-independent student will manage their finances. Will they burn through their savings over-using their debit card for non-necessities? Will they do what I did and ruin their credit right off the bat with all of the credit card applications that are aimed at college kids? Or, will they manage their money with a Visa gift card so that they can’t go over their limit and create problems that could haunt them for years down the road?

That isn’t a bad little bonus. I like the idea of the gift cards, as it is more secure & “limiting”.

Has anyone actually gotten this discount at any Office Max store? Went today to buy these Visa gift cards and they knew nothing about the promotion and the register did not apply the discount even when buying $300 in Visa gift cards. The manager looked through their promotion/sales binder book and found nothing on this. After doing a search on their computer they still found no mention of this sale. I’ll try another location tomorrow, but none in my area of Ohio have heard about this. Maybe this was just in certain regions, or was it supposed to be nationwide? They also had no signs around the gift card racks about this, which they usually put out if they were instructed to by the corporate office or regional offices.

Lissa, I feel horrible about this. I wrote the post with the dates as given to me by the PR company that hired me. Then, I went out of town to a resort with horrific wifi. The day after posting, I receive information from the PR rep that OfficeMax had changed the dates to August 23-29, 2015. I just returned home and the first thing I did was update the post to show the new dates. I am very sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you.
