Chicken Soup for the Soul: Teens Talk Getting In. . . to College
is another inspring collection of 101 true stories by people who have been there. As a mom of a 16 year old homeschooled son, we have just recently navigated the SAT and dual enrolling him at Manatee Community College The State College of Florida (became a 4-yr college on 4-15-09). This has been quite a learning curve for both of us. When I went to college my high school guidance counselor guided us along the process. As homeschoolers, the brunt of the burden falls on the parent. Thankfully with Florida’s dual enrollment standards, my son has the next 5 semesters to take classes that will count for both high school and college credit at the same time and the state pays for the classes! It is a huge blessing and he will start this summer taking Spanish 1.

Chicken Soup for the Soul: Teens Talk Getting In. . . to College
offers the comfort that high school teens and their parents need during a crucial milestone in their lives. Filled with real stories about the pressures of applying to college, and how teens just like them overcame their doubts and fears, it’s the heartwarming “support group” every high school applicant (and their parents) can turn to as they cram, apply, and eagerly wait to hear back from colleges across the country.

Inside Chicken Soup for the Soul: Teens Talk Getting In. . . to College
, you’ll also read about:
• A lacrosse accident the night before the SAT’s
• One student’s eye-opening “gap year” spent in Peru – in lieu of going straight to college
• Parents that tried a little too hard to write their kids’ essays for them
• Students that didn’t get into the schools of their parents’ dreams – and were grateful
• Acceptance letters, rejection letters, getting wait-listed, adjusting to dorm life, and more.

My senior son…..graduates June 6th and has been accepted to Indiana University (Pre-med). We are so happy for him.
Last night, was the first time I had a dream about taking him to college. I woke up with tears on my face…..it was very emotional and it hasn’t even REALLY happened yet! 🙂

My daughter is undecided, and is wavering between starting college right after her senior year, or taking a year off. This book would be perfect for her.
