Poser Debut is the first product of its kind to let beginning artists start designing and animating 3D characters in a flash for just under $50. Smith Micro created the new software based on its popularPoser line, used by professionals in the 3D industry for over 20 years. Since this is a product that is right up Aaron’s alley (he is a digital media major at SCF) I asked him to write a guest review of the software.
Here is what he had to say:
Poser Debut is a 3D animation software with all the libraries and goodies to get you started.
First glance at the software and it can be very daunting. If you are like me then you try to play around and see what you can figure out on your own and go through all the crazy libraries of information but then inevitably you get lost or something doesn’t do what you thought it would and off to the tutorial you go.
The tutorial is well laid out and explains a lot of the first simple projects and then into some very complex fine tuning and creation.
There are a lot of controls that allow you tons control inside the software. You can do almost anything with your model including dress them up in clothing that you can change the colors of, making a room or an apartment with all the amenities or just pose them and adjust each toe or finger to the precise point you want them.
Poser Debut is a very powerful program and after some trial and error I believe it is possible to make some seriously complex projects and even some short movies. Just remember it will take some time and patience to get to know the software so you can make some complex videos but it is possible and if you take the time it will be rewarding.
Disclosure: we received a free download of this software for the purpose of this review. All opinions are 100% Aaron’s.

The closest I get to 3D is watching a 3D movie or playing the Nintendo 3DS 😉 Sounds like a good deal if 3D is your thing though. Nice to hear from your son for a review.
