Many thanks to Universal Music Group for providing a sample of the product, Anne Wilson “My Jesus” for this review. Opinions are 100% my own and NOT influenced my monetary compensation.

I first heard of Christian music newcomer, Anne Wilson, last fall. She was coming to town on tour, opening for Big Daddy Weave. The Joy FM had been playing her debut single, “My Jesus” and I really like the song and couldn’t wait to hear her in person. The concert was held at Woodland Community Church, where I teach music in their Woodland Fine Arts Academy, so I volunteered to serve as an usher for the concert.

It was November 6, 2021 and this was the first packed out concert in 2 years! When Anne took the stage, the Holy Spirit fell. This wasn’t a concert, it was a worship service and even though we only knew one of her songs, we were all drawn in. Anne’s faith is deep and genuine, the lyrics to her songs are deep and moving. Her low voice has a unique timbre which lends well to her country style. Top all that off with the fact that she was only 19 years old, and wow, she is going to be huge!

One of the photos I took at that concert.

Now we fast forward to April 22, 2022 and her debut album, “My Jesus” is finally released after 2 years of work. I had the pleasure of watching her album launch livestream a few days ago. While she sang a few songs off the album, she was also presented with a few accolades.

  • Her debut single “My Jesus” was certified gold the day of the livestream!
  • Anne Wilson is the first female solo artist debut single to reach #1 on the Billboard ChristianAirplay chart
  • Anne Wilson’s debut single “My Jesus” was the longest #1 single on Billboard’s Christian Airplaychart of 2021 at 7 weeks total
  • “My Jesus” was nominated for a 2022 Billboard Music Award for “Top Christian Song” againstKayne West. The awards will broadcast live coast-to-coast on May 15 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m.PT on NBC. It will also stream live on Peacock.
  • “My Jesus” Hit #1 on Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 and #19 on the Rolling Stone Top 25Trending charts
  • Anne Wilson was featured as Billboard’s October 2021 Chartbreaker Artist in their 21 Under21 issue

She did all of that BEFORE her album released, yes, she is that good!

Anne Wilson's "My Jesus" album review and giveaway

Meet Anne Wilson

Before I get into the specifics of the album, I think you need to know Anne Wilson’s story and there is no one better to tell the story then Anne herself.

About the Album

Anne writes from a place of deep faith that has grown through deep sorrow. Each song on the album, co-written with songwriting heavy hitters like Ben Glover, Matthew West, Mia Fields, Jonathan Smith, Jeff Pardo, Emily Weisband, and more, is specifically crafted, a moment-in-time snapshot of Wilson’s self-discovery as she starts on a new and unplanned path.

Album Tracks

  1. Prelude (Scatter)
  2. Scatter
  3. My Jesus
  4. Devil
  5. Sunday Sermons
  6. Hey Girl
  7. This House

Most albums have some great songs and some not great songs, not so with “My Jesus”. Every song has a powerful message that will touch your heart. I have even found it difficult to pick a top 3 or top 5 even, they are all that good. I encourage you to listen for yourself, you can buy/stream the album here.

Hillary Scott (from Lady A) features on the song “Mamas” + “Mamas (Official Music Video)” will release 5/4 for Mother’s Day, and includes footage of Anne surprising her mother with the song, and Hillary Scott and her daughters. Hillary sang “Mamas” with Anne at her album launch, their voices complement each other so well this was a highlight of the livestream.
