The annual Epcot International Food and Wine Festival kicked off on Wednesday, September 14th and we were there. As a veteran festival goer, I know not to go on the weekend, especially opening weekend or holiday weekends, so we thought that this year we would try opening day. I’ll admit when we arrived at the park entrance, we were not prepared for the crowd entering the park at 9:30am. It didn’t help that there were only 5 entry points open, which bottled up the crowd. Once in the park the crowd dispersed, thankfully, and the rest of the day didn’t feel too crowded.

Ron and I had been on vacation at Walt Disney World since the previous Friday, our son Jordan drove over to join us for a day a the festival. We spent the morning riding rides in Future World before heading back to World Showcase and the bulk of the Food and Wine Festival kiosks. We each have our favorite festival foods. I was sad to see my 2nd favorite Mongolian Beef slider no longer on the China menu 🙁 As a family, our favorite kiosk is Australia. The Grilled Sweet and Spicy Bush Berry Shrimp with Pineapple, Pepper, Onion and Snap Peas and the Lamb Chop with Pesto and Potato Crumbles are always must-haves.

It was very hot out and honestly, we didn’t feel like eating much in the heat. We took it easy and each just got a few items. I know I will be back at the festival at the end of October so I will try more foods then. That is aprt of the fun of the festival is trying new things along with your favorites.

We didn’t get to stay for the Eat to the Beat Concert. Jordan wanted to hop over to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for the evening. It was so hot that Ron and I went back to our resort for an hour and a half to shower and rest before meeting Jordan. As I sit here typing I’m dreaming of another lamb chop…maybe I’ll have to visit again before the end of October.
