As a board game lover and a Bible lover I have played many Bible themed board games over the years. Some have bun fun, some have been educational and some have been cheesy. This weekend my family and I had the chance to play Wisdomantics a new board game based on the book of Proverbs.

About Wisdomantics

Wisdomantics–New King James Version (NKJV) is an interactive DVD board game for players of various faiths who desire to gain the vast wisdom of King Solomon. Wisdomantics utilizes 2 DVDs which contain 400 multiple-choice questions/proverbs. There is a built-in variable timer which automatically adjusts for 1st, 2nd and final attempt questions. The DVD will grade your response and King Solomon will quote the proverb when you answer correctly. Finally, the DVD will instruct players when to draw a specialty card which will enable them to navigate the game board.

Mom Maven’s Thoughts

Ron (Christian school graduate), Jordan (homeschool graduate and full-time missionary) and I (Bible college graduate) sat down Sunday evening to give Wisdomantics a try. The set-up was frustrating because the pieces in the box weren’t labeled. We didn’t know which cards were the Advancement Cards and what the Temple Scorecards were. We weren’t even 100% sure what the tokens were but we finally found those listed on the bottom of the box. I read all of the directions out loud and we were instantly confused. The Restoration card rules were difficult to understand.

Once we figured out the convoluted rules, we started the game. We used our DVD player and we had some difficulty getting the answers to select via the remote, this may have worked better if we had used a laptop instead. We enjoyed answering the questions and we were pretty equal in our success. When you get a question correct on the first try the DVD goes to a screen of King Solomon with his hands raised and he says, “Hallelujah!”. We are Pentecostal, we raise our hands and shout “Hallelujah!” regularly but for some reason this screen on the game felt very cheesy, maybe it was the voice or the way it was said but it became a running joke throughout the game. In a game playing miracle, Ron won! I was a very close second and Jordan came in third.

Overall, we fell this game would be great for a middle school Sunday school class or homeschoolers learning the book of Proverbs. Personally, we don’t see ourselves ever playing this game again because of the high cheesy factor.

We played this game, too – and kind of liked it. Like you said, it was a bit cheesy, but it’s a way to get the Word of God in our lives, which is great. Our favorite game is called The Bible DVD with Jeremy Camp as the narrator. Great game for families!!

Even though I attended church four times a week growing up and had eight siblings and lots of board games, we never had any. I have never played any. Would like to with my grandsons!
