Yesterday a movie that will be in limited release at the end of this month was brought to my attention. I watched the trailer and read the information and I knew right away I needed to let you, my readers know about this movie it is called The 5th Quarter. As a mom of 2 teenage boys, the message in this movie hits home. Based on a true story, The 5th Quarter (starring Andie MacDowell, Aidan Quinn & Ryan Merriman) carries a powerful message of triumph over tragedy. After the tragic death of his 15 year old brother Luke, Wake Forest’s football player Jon Abbate helps lead his team in their most inspiring football season.

Watch the trailer and then I’ll share more about the message of this movie.

The 5th Quarter is happy to be working alongside organizations like Donate Life and The National Organizations for Youth Safety to launch a nationwide campaign through The 5th Quarter widget, bringing awareness to teenagers and parents about the life-and-death consequences of reckless driving and the life-saving gift of organ donation. Please share this with your friends and family who have teenagers. Show the trailer to your teens and have them take the pledge along with you (click “pledge” on the widget in my sidebar). Reckless driving and distracted driving can both be prevented, educating drivers is the key.

The movie is being released on March 25, 2011 in select theaters in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. The success of the opening week will help determine if the movie is shown in other markets. I will be taking my sons opening week and I hope you will take your teens too. Their lives are too precious to lose.

You can stay up to date with The 5th Quarter on their website, Twitter and Facebook.

Wow. I’m choked up just reading this post. My boys are still very young, but I’m already terrified of the day when I have to hand the keys over. I just love them so much. It’s not just trusting them to drive safely, but their friends, too. I’m not looking forward to those years.

This is movie is going to be a gut-wrencher for all parents, but it’s a lesson that needs to be shared.

Definitely a tear jerker. I’ll have to put this one off for a while until I can handle a sad movie.
