You may remember back in January I introduced you to Goby as part of the Plan a Family Fun Day. Well now Goby, the activity search engine that helps people find things to do with their free time, has gone mobile with the launch of its free iPhone application.

Goby’s location-aware iPhone application allows users to quickly and easily find nearby activities, make weekend plans or explore a new location with just three taps. Goby has over four million unique things to do across 350 categories, ranging from local festivals and events to hiking trails, beaches, restaurants, theaters and even playgrounds. Goby covers every town and city in the United States, providing a rich set of listings and an interactive map for every category. Activities can be selected in a single tap, and specific details including descriptions, reviews and photos appear. Goby makes finding the right adventure a snap.

Not only does Goby understand where a user is, it understands a new dimension to mobile search – time. Finding out what’s happening now, this weekend, or even on the 4th of July is quick and easy. With one more tap users can share activities with friends via social sites such as Facebook and Twitter, creating an easy way to share plans and receive recommendations.

“We created Goby to help people find the things they want to do and inspire them to try new experiences,” said Mark Watkins, CEO and co-founder of Goby. “This app gives them the power to spontaneously find fun, anytime, anywhere, and share it with their friends. Our users want to get the most out of their free time, and the Goby iPhone app was built to do that.”

Launched in October, Goby’s “What, When and Where” search engine has helped hundreds of thousands of people across the country cure their boredom blues. Goby is currently working on applications for other smartphone platforms, which will be rolled out later this year. The iPhone application can be downloaded on iTunes.

If you have an iPhone and try this app please leave me a comment letting me know what you thought of it.
