Ingredients

  • 6 cups flour
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 TBS yeast
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 cups warm water 115°
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 TBS butter

Instructions

  1. Grease a large mixing bowl, for dough to rise in.
  2. Grease two 9x5" loaf pans.
  3. In a bowl place sugar and water, sprinkle with yeast and let dissolve for about 15 minutes.
  4. In the large mixing bowl add 3 cups flour, salt, and oil and mix with paddle attachment.
  5. Add in remaining 3 cups of flour, change to dough hook and mix until it pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
  6. Pull the dough out onto a slightly floured surface and knead lightly.
  7. Place the dough in a well oiled bowl, turning the dough to coat,
  8. Cover with a damp towel or plastic wrap and place in a warm, draft-free spot for about an hour, until it doubles in size.
  9. Remove the cover and punch the dough down.
  10. Pull the dough out onto a slightly floured surface, knead lightly.
  11. Divide the dough in half, form each half into loaves by rolling them up and pinching the edges together.
  12. Place the loaves in the prepared loaf pans. Cover and let rise another 30-45 minutes, until about an inch over the top of the pan.
  13. Preheat the oven to 350°.
  14. Bake for 25-30 minutes.
  15. Pull the loaves out of the oven, melt the butter and brush it on the loaves.
  16. Allow the loaves to cool for at least 10 minutes in the pans before removing to the cooling racks.
