This entry is part 29 of 45 in the series Disney

In honor of Veteran’s Day, I wanted to share an oft overlooked ceremony that takes place daily at the Magic Kingdom. We happened upon it a few years ago while exiting the park.

On March 4, 2005 we were at the Magic Kingdom celebrating Aaron’s 12th birthday. We were leaving the park just before 5pm to go to dinner and downtown Disney. When we were at the end of Main Street near the flagpole, we noticed a small crowd gathering. At 5pm everyday at the flagpole there is a flag ceremony. I am a very patriotic American-to the point of being sappy at times so we stopped to watch. The honor guard, a select US Military veteran and the Disney World marching band are the cast for this ceremony. Once the flag is lowered and folded, it is presented to the “Veteran of the Day” as a thank-you for their service. It is a beautiful ceremony and a unique happening on Main Street.

Happy Veteran’s Day and thank you to all of the men and women who work to keep us free!
